Robert George Edgerton Jr., 74, passed away peacefully July 31, 2025, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Bob was the son of Robert Sr. and Katherine Edgerton. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many, known for his integrity, generosity and kindness. He was a true cornerstone of the community — a generous and compassionate soul who dedicated his life to helping others in every way he could. Whether offering a helping hand, wise counsel or simply a listening ear, his presence was a source of strength and kindness to all who knew him.
An avid golfer, Bob spent his final days enjoying cherished rounds with the "Good ol' Boys" at Huntsville Golf Club and in the Fox Hill Country Club Twilight League. He was a loyal Cleveland Guardians (Indians) fan and held season tickets for Penn State football for over four decades.
Bob was an alumnus of Wyoming Seminary's Lower and Upper Schools, graduating in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from Susquehanna University and an M.B.A. in accounting from Wilkes University.
Following his studies, Bob launched a distinguished career in banking, beginning at United Penn Bank. He found his calling in commercial lending at First Eastern Bank and went on to hold leadership roles with Franklin First Savings, First Heritage Bank and eventually Luzerne Bank, where he rose to serve as President and CEO. Even after retirement, Bob continued his involvement as a member of Luzerne Bank's Board of Directors. Throughout his career, he was known for his personal touch and deep commitment to his colleagues, clients and community.
Bob's dedication extended far beyond the banking world. He was a proud 45-year member of the Westmoreland Club, serving on numerous committees and holding the title of president from 2018 to 2019.
As an active public servant, Bob served the Dallas Borough Council for 16 years and held the position of president at the time of his passing. He served as treasurer of the Pennsylvania State Police Camp Cadet Program (Troop P), vice chairman of the Pennsylvania Economy League and board member of Penn State University's Wilkes-Barre campus.
He dedicated his time to countless organizations, including the SPCA, Junior Chamber of Commerce, the American Institute of Banking and inaugural class of Leadership Wilkes-Barre. Bob was also a proud member of the Masons, Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Preceded in death by his parents, Bob leaves behind a loving family: his wife, Nancy; daughter, Leigh Waring (R. Charles); son, Robert (Kristin); stepsons, Matthew (Christie) and Patrick (Michele) Barnard; brother, Ritchie (Patricia); niece, Amy; nine adoring grandchildren and golden retriever, Blair.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. The family has arranged private funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Oncology Associates (MOA Script Fund), 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704, supporting those in need of cancer care.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Medical Oncology Associates, the University of Pennsylvania and the staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. Bruce Saidman, M.D., and Dr. Michael Rupp, M.D.

To Nancy, Richie, and the Edgerton Family,
Jean and I are saddened to hear of Bob´s passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences. The world has lost a kind soul. I have been fortunate to know Bob since early childhood, our parents and his were close. In our adult lives, Bob became one of the best bankers we have known. He was always the customer advocate, always straightforward and honest. In the community, he was the consummate volunteer, serving so many groups in so many ways, from Board member to President. His leadership and kindness will be sorely missed. May our dear friend Bob Rest in Peace in Gods arms. May wonderful memories of him bring you all some comfort at this most difficult time.

Dear Edgerton family, my brother Larry and I went to Sem with Robbie. He was a very popular guy and well liked by everyone. He loved being at Bill's before the 1st bell.
I knew him as the CEO at Luzerne Bank and he was very supportive of our Swoyersville American Legion Post 644 functions. Please accept our condolences. He was a great person, family man and community leader.

I met Robbie freshman year at Sem. We had lots of fun together in the years that followed. Playing golf behind the Host hotel in WB. The course was mostly a culm bank, staying at the mis-named Joy Motel at the shore where you had to bring your own light bulb, his Dad was a low rent housing provider and we got a metal bed from one of his properties for my girlfriend . It was nicknamed " the orphan bed". I talked to him on the 4th of July when he offered to help me cut the grass at the lake. I told him the grass was high in support of the lightning bugs. I could hear his eyes roll over the phone... Vicki and I heard about his passing while visiting Montreal. The last time I was in this neck of the woods was when I was with his family visiting their place at 1000 islands.
We don't come back till the 9th so I will miss y'all on the 8th... Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of a good friend. The Sem class of 69 has lost way too many...

Robbie was my prom date when I was a freshman at Seminary! I spent all day getting ready and he spent all day washing "the old man´s car". What a thrill it was to be asked out by a senior boy! Always a gentleman, I have such fond memories of that night and more. He will be missed.
Sincerely,

Very sorry to read of Robbie's passing. Many decades ago, he was a neighborhood friend. Always kind to us younger kids. Took time to throw a football or play catch with a baseball and gloves which became some of my best memories of childhood. Robbie will be missed.
