Robert C. Hoban, 75, of Bear Creek, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025.
Born April 11, 1950, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Ruth Smith Hoban.
A 1968 graduate of Hanover High School, Rob continued his education for professional licensure throughout his career as an insurance agent and broker.
Rob joined his father and uncle as the third generation operating the J.W. Hoban Agency. He served in various capacities throughout his nearly 50-year career before retiring as firm president in 2015.
Rob was a member of the Parish of St. Elizabeth-St. Mark and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
An enthusiastic fisherman, hunter, and golfer, Rob was a member of the Three Feathers Rod & Gun Club and once combined the fortune of hitting a hole-in-one with the misfortune of it dropping in the cup on the wrong green.
Rob was involved in the Bear Creek community and was a member and officer of the Bear Creek Lions Club. He coached girls' soccer and led the softball team to its first championship.
He was the best chauffeur ever, never missing driving his daughter to school, sports practices and games, college drop-offs and pick-ups, and residential moves through the years.
His wife, Eugenia McGuire Hoban, preceded him in death on May 6, 2011.
His daughter, Kara Hoban; son-in-law, Brian Nelson; grandson, Aidan Nelson; sister, Nona, and her husband Dick Loftus, of Mountain Top; sister-in-law, Maureen, and her husband Jim Rinehimer, of Pocono Pines; nieces, nephews, other family, and friends will miss him very much.
Celebration of Rob's Life begins with a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at McLaughlin's, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. It continues there with a gathering at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Elizabeth in Bear Creek.
Donations to the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania, biapa.org, are preferred and will honor Rob's memory.
