MOUNTAIN TOP — Rodney J. Aton, 85, of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully Friday, April, 9, 2022, at the Smith Health Care Center after a short illness. Born in Mountain Top, he was the son of the late Eugene and Christine Aton.
Rodney was a graduate of Fairview High School, Class of 1954. Over the years, he was employed by Biscontini and Gilchrist Trucking before finding himself garage and shop manager as well as building maintenance supervisor at Kane Freight Lines. He retired in 2012. He married his high school sweetheart, Florence Steinbrenner on Jan. 23, 1956. Rod enjoyed watching his sons race cars, snowmobiles and motorcycles. He also enjoyed having breakfast with his wife and friends at the Chalet Restaurant, Mountain Top. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as the family pets, dogs Paris, Desi and Rylee and cats Mia and Sandy.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Florence, and brother, Eugene Aton.
Surviving are his sons; Rodney and companion Darla Moore and Ricky and wife Maryellen, and his daughter Rhonda Aton, all of Mountain Top. Grandchildren; Ricky Aton and wife Teri, of Selinsgrove, Autumn Geiser and husband Nick, of Mountain Top, Adam Aton and wife, Colleen, of Maryland, and Ashley Burman and husband Ed, of Mountain Top, great-grandchildren, Lucas and Aaron Aton, Abigail and Hannah Geiser, Asher and Carson Aton and Dakota and Murphy Burman.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mountain Top, with the Rev. Michelle Kaufman officiating. All those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in the Albert Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon and again from 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening at McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff at Smith Health Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity in Rodney's name.

So sorry for your loss. I was a driver at Gilchrist and Kane working with Rodney for almost 40 years. Rodney always had my back. Such great memories. He will be missed.
