Ronald M. "Pickles" Groholski, 85, a lifelong resident of Nanticoke, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, in Nanticoke.
Born in Nanticoke on May 6, 1940, he was a son of the late John and Lillian Butkiewicz Groholski. Ron graduated from Nanticoke High School, Class of 1959, and proudly served his country, enlisting with the United States Marine Corps. He was a motor vehicle operator and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C., Fallbrook, California, and Okinawa, Japan. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Early on, he worked for Suburban Oil Company as a driver. For most of his career, he was employed by Jack Williams Tire Warehouse, Moosic, working in the warehouse and later on as a hot shot driver servicing local gas stations, tire dealers and car dealerships. He retired after 47 years of service to the company.
He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and previously he belonged to St. Mary of Czestochowa Church until the consolidation of parishes.
Ron loved his cars and drag racing. He raced his 1957 Chevy, 1966 Chevelle SS, 1972 Nova SS and 1962 Corvette at local dragstrips that included Forty Fort Drags, Numidia Dragway and Pocono Drag Lodge. He enjoyed going to the Summer Nationals drag racing event with his group of racing friends. He was also a collector of model cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Groholski.
Ron always had a smile on his face and loved everyone. He was one awesome man. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Annette Groholski, three nieces, and a nephew, all of Virginia; his devoted caregiver and lifelong partner, Dolores Werhun; as well as Richard Werhun and family who also cared for him. The family expresses their appreciation for the devoted care from Shelley, Char, Christie, Betsy, Barb, Judy, Larissa, Shannon and Donna.

Ron shared a room at Mercy Hospital with my dad many years ago when they both had open heart surgery. He was such a sweet guy. I remember him coming to St Mary spaghetti dinners every Thursday for a while. It was always a pleasure seeing him. He was soft spoken, kind, and funny. Sorry for your loss

So sorry to hear of Pickles' passing. It was always a pleasure to see him. Such a sweet guy. Now he & my Bob can talk about cars up in heaven. ;)
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
