Salvatore DeRosa Obituary

MOUNTAIN TOP — Salvatore DeRosa, 75, of Mountain Top, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Italy, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Josephine (Papa) DeRosa. Salvatore worked as a machinist and also for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport.

Sal loved to tell stories about his life. It could've been about how he grew up on a farm in Italy, his travels with the military, or his move to Paterson, N.J., and Mountain Top. He loved being outdoors, especially if he was hunting or growing vegetables and figs in his gardens. Most recently this summer, he took a lot of pride in the big garden that he helped Enza and Mike to grow from the seeds.

Sal loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and was always telling anyone that would listen about their latest adventures.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his brother, Giovanni.

Surviving are his wife, Vincenza (Pierri) DeRosa and the following children: Pasquale and wife, Samantha, of Mountain Top, Josephine DeRosa, of Kingston, Antonio and wife, Janine, of Mountain Top, and Michelangelo, of Mountain Top. A sister Rosalia DeRosa, in Italy, also survives along with 10 grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family and are under the direction of McCune Funeral Service, Mountain Top.

I've only known Sal a short time but I will miss his smiling face and humor at our family gatherings. Especially when he would tell me he honked his car horn every time he passed my house and I would say I never hear it so I can't wave! He was taken too soon but left his loving heart to all who knew him. My deepest regard to Enza and all the family.
