Samuel John Korey, 64, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 23, 1961, to Samuel and Irene Korey.
Sammy, as he was known by family and friends, was a graduate of Crestwood High School in Mountain Top. Upon graduation, he attended Luzerne County Community College for business administration.
Soon after, during the 1980s and 1990s, he worked as the floating restaurant manager for his family-owned business, the Holiday Pancake House restaurant chain that had many locations throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Most recently, he was employed as a supply chain associate at Chewy in Hanover Township.
Sammy brought laughter and joy to everyone he spoke to with his uplifting personality.
In his spare time, Sammy loved football and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs. He would also joke that he helped build the local casino with his Keno skills.
Family was important to Sammy. He especially loved spending time and playing with his nephew, Sebastian, 3. He also enjoyed going for long walks with his favorite dog, Elliot, a Golden Doodle. Sammy could often be found watching classic black-and-white movies and TV shows, always his preference.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Korey, and his sister-in-law, Lisa Makarewicz Korey.
He is survived by his mother, Irene; his brother, Chris Korey, and his two children, Madison and Jackson; his brother, Doug Korey, and his wife, Julee Keoonela-Korey, and their two children, Skylar and Sebastian; his cousin, Fran Matso Lysiak, and many more cousins and relatives.
Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Mass Liturgy at 10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2026, celebrated by the Rev. Adib Salameh, in St. Anthony and St. George Maronite Church, 323 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Arrangements are entrusted to S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.

My Dearest Korey family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Sammy and I had a lot of great times together in Mountaintop, then he helped me so much when my very first apartment flooded in Edwardsville. I could just see him on the side of the building, as I handed him electronics and money that I was saving up for a major purchase. After that, we worked together for Mark at Desi's in Dallas. He was so trustworthy and helpful to be so close during this tragic flood at my apartment in Edwardsville. He will be missed very much by so many and never be forgotten. God bless and my sincerest condolences. Please let me know if there will be calling hours.
Sincerely, Heather Allabaugh and family
