Walter Petrash passed away on July 11, 2017, at home with his loving wife, Barbara, by his side.
Walter was born in Nanticoke, on June 12, 1951, the son of the late Walter and Ann (Peters) Petrash. His sister, Sonia Marshall, preceded him in death.
A graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1969, and Wilkes College, class of 1973, Walter was a master carpenter and fine musician.
Throughout his life, Walter was the consummate loyal friend to many, a lover of music and animals (especially dogs Willie and Zoe) and a cherished husband. With an ever-ready smile and a gentle heart, Walter exuded kindness and good cheer. His warm smile and ability to make people feel comfortable and welcome were his hallmarks.
Walter is survived by his wife, Barbara (Russ) Petrash; sister, Patricia Anziulewicz and her husband, John, of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; brother-in-law, Nick Marshall, of Nanticoke; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation hours will from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 173 E. Green St., Nanticoke.
In lieu of flowers, Walter would want you to be kind to one another, love your animals, sing a happy tune and enjoy a simple life. In addition, a contribution to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas PA 18612 or Medical Oncology Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704 is welcome.

He was one of my closest friends since 5th grade. We kept in touch and always got together when I was in the area. Although it is sad to see a loved one pass, he is no longer suffering and in a better place. I know his wife Barbara misses him the most and my thoughts and prayers are with her.
