William Bennett Obituary

William Bennett Jr., of Sunset Court, Forty Fort, passed on to the Lord on April 19, 2008.
William was born October 5, 1923, in Edwardsville. He was a son of the late William Henry and Loretta Scott Bennett. William graduated from Edwardsville High School and attended Shrivenham American University, England; Biarritz American University, France; Wilkes-Barre Business School; and Wilkes University.
William served honorably with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II.
He worked at the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company, Easton Structural Steel, Hudson Motor Car Company and Glen Alden Coal Company. William was employed by the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company for more than 30 years where he served as an accountant, tax auditor and supervisor and was promoted to corporate staff assistant.
After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. His favorite moments included walking the dike in Forty Fort, enjoying the company of his friends and the outdoors.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Julie (Astrauskas); daughter Susan Gorman and her husband, John, Forty Fort; son William Bennett and his wife, Lynn (Brychta), Glen Gardener, N.J.; grandchildren Doug Bennett and wife Abby; Todd Bennett and fiancée Emily; Jonathan, Colin and Juliana Gorman; sister, Peggy Kal and her husband, John, Columbia, Md.; and several nieces.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at Holy Name/St. Mary’s Parish, Shoemaker Street, Swoyersville, Pa. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hugh B. Hughes and Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
