William Hyer Obituary
William E. Hyer, 74, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away at his home in Newport News, Va., on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. An orphan, he was raised in various foster homes in New Jersey. He dedicated his life to his country, joining the U.S. Air Force in 1954, where he found his first real home. After 22 years of exemplary service, he began a new career as a civil servant in National Security in 2008. William was preceded in death by his beloved son, Lindsay Richard Hyer. He is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Hyer; his son, Steven Hyer, Cleburne, Texas; daughter, Amanda Cunningham, Hampton, Va.; son, Matthew Cunningham, Wilkes-Barre; stepsons, Michael Remy, Newport News, Va., and Scott Remy, Tunkhannock; stepdaughter, Kim Parks, Berwick; as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Carter Funeral Home, 251 Richneck Rd., Newport News, Va. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carter Funeral Home, with interment to follow at A.G. Horton Memorial Veteran's Cemetery, Suffolk, Va., at 1:30 p.m. A guestbook is available at www.carterfuneralhomes.com .

Sharon and family of a great man Mr. WIlliam E. Hyer. The Security & Safety family send a heart felt sarrow for your loss. MR. Hyer was always addressed as such. He was an is a dedicated man to whomever or whatever he was doing. I can say with conviction, When Mr. Hyer says: I am ready to meet my maker" He will be early or on time and prepared to meet our maker. Mr. Hyer will be misswed but he joins a host of others now with no pain in a joyfull place.
