Winifred "Wendy" Shortz of Edwardsville passed away recently at home.
Born in 1948 in the Village of Orange, Franklin Township, Wendy was the daughter of the late Robert Edwin and Winifred Schooley Shortz. Moving to Kingston at a young age, the family resided on Park Place. Wendy attended Wyoming Seminary Day School, the Masters School (a college preparatory school), in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., graduating in 1966, and Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass., graduating in 1970.
After graduation, Wendy resided in White Plains, N.Y., and was employed by AT&T in the IT department. She later relocated to Los Angeles and was employed as a subcontractor courier for Federal Express. Returning to Wyoming Valley, Wendy continued working as a courier and also pursued her passion for painting. Wendy was a talented artist and especially enjoyed painting landscapes, automobiles, the occasional commissioned portrait, and beautifully detailed paintings of trains and railroad yards.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her twin brothers: Edwin III in 2010 and Robert E. in 2023.
Surviving are her brother, Frederick M. Shortz, and his wife, Ellen, and their children, Stephen, Alan, and Imani; John Ungarski, her companion of 20 years, and his son, Daniel; and Wendy's cousins, Harry, John, Matthew, and Joan Schooley.
A celebration of Wendy's life will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations in Wendy's name may be made by the donor's choice.
