Betty Rupert Obituary
Age 84, of Ardencroft, DE. passed away at her daughter's home on Monday, October 21, 2013.
Born in San Leandro, CA to the late Dick and Connie Harada, Betty was an avid reader, loved to do crossword puzzles, cook, sew, knit and draw. Betty had a great sense of humor, was the life of the party and a true "Dancing Queen" as witnessed at her 80th birthday party. She was an inspiration, a truly amazing woman and words cannot express how much she will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, her daughter Cathy Hone, grandchildren Grant, Stacey and Nicholas Hone, and great grandchild Evan Baker.
She is survived by her son Chris Baker (Sherry) of Lewis, DE, daughter Janice McClafferty (Richard) of Wilmington, DE, brother Richard Harada of Frankford, DE, sister Karen Hostler (Jim) of Wilmington, DE, stepchildren Greg Rupert (Kim), Mary McDevitt (Jim) of PA, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 11 am at the Corleto Latina Family Center, 807 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE. Friends may call from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to DE Hospice-3515 Silverside Rd. Wilmington, DE 19810 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Interment will be private. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Betty's family. As a former neighbor and friend, I have many fond memories of Betty. I remember being included in her crew of paperback readers. Betty and other “members” of the group would read a book, initial it, and pass it on to one of the other “readers”. I felt pretty cool the first time I put my initials on one of the paperbacks that Betty and the others had already initialed, and then pass it along to the next “reader”! She was a very special lady and will be sorely missed.
