George Schie Obituary

George E. Schie, age 66, of New Philadelphia passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover.
A son of the late Ruth Schie, George was born at Holmes County, O., on April 12, 1943. He graduated from Hiland High School and soon entered into the U.S. Army Reserve where he served six years as a part of the Military Police.
George married the former Barbara Carroll on Jan. 7, 1966, and together the couple would rear three children.
Throughout his working career, George spent a majority of his time as a truck driver for area businesses that included Reese Trucking, Ben Cookson Co., and Twin City Concrete. Prior to retirement, George would spend 14 years as an employee of Dover Chemical where he was a machine operator.
George loved to be around his family and friends and enjoyed the time spent with those he encountered throughout his life. He enjoyed participating in the Thursday Night Golf League at Green Valley Golf Course, being an active member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445 and the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. 510 and a former member of the New Philadelphia Quaker Club. He was also a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
George was also a car enthusiast who loved watching the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auctions as well as NASCAR. He was also particularly fond of the Earnhardts. George's love for sports didn't stop at NASCAR. Those who knew him best were well aware of his passion of the Pittsburgh Steelers and "Big Ben" Roethlisberger.
As a family man, George always made a point to be in attendance at the dance recitals or sporting events of his grandchildren. It did not matter if he was sitting through the Nutcracker or attending a wresting match, George was there to show his support.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, George leaves behind a family which includes two daughters, Melissa (Tommy) Thomas and Michelle (Rocky) Dusenberry, both of New Philadelphia; and a son, Chad (Natalie) Schie of Dover.
Seven grandchildren, Ryan and Samantha Thomas; Emilie, Logan and Megan Dusenberry; and Riley and Caden Schie as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to his mother, George was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Fritz, Jake and Don as well as a sister, Shirley Brown.
The family will receive friends on Thursday (today), Oct. 15, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The New Philadelphia Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 510 will hold a lodge of sorrow at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to services on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service celebrating George's life in the funeral home's chapel on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens.
Following the services, the family will return to the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home's Web site.
The family requests that memorial contributions in George's name be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 3640 Oldtown Valley Rd. SW, New Philadelphia, O. 44663.
