Robert Lanzer Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Lanzer 1946-2016
Age 69, of Dover died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016. Born Dec. 2, 1946 in Springfield, Massachusetts he was a son of Pauline Root Lanzer of New Philadelphia and the late Kenneth Lanzer. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Lanzer; brother, Richard Lanzer and an infant sister.
Bob attended elementary school at York and high school at Stone Creek and New Philadelphia. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the US Army, having been drafted in August 1967 and wounded in battle on March 7, 1968. He was eventually sent to Valley Forge Hospital in Pennsylvania where he would stay until his release in May of 1970. Bob went on to work at Marsh Lumber for over 30 years and eventually retired from Summit Wood in Orrville. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg, Sugarcreek American Legion, Post 494 and was a life member of the DAV. In his spare time he enjoyed camping and fishing, but was well known for his butchering and his famous krepples and sausage.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Katherine "Kathy" Weber Lanzer on July 2, 1966 in the Jerusalem Church at New Phila, and together they raised two children, Matthew (Lora) Lanzer and Heidi Stull and her companion, Don Seck all of Strasburg. He is also survived by a brother, Norman (Pauline) Lanzer of New Philadelphia; sisters, Susan (Art) Scott of Stone Creek, Sally (Danny) Seivers of Canton, Sandy (Russ) Roth of Avon Lake; mother in law, Edna Weber Ridenour of Dover; grandchildren, Katie Thomas, Annie Lanzer, Danielle Stull; four step grandsons; great grandchildren, Allison Kay Hummel, Walker James Burrows; three step great grandchildren and a special niece, Natoshia and her son, Hayden, who was also Bob's side kick.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. in the Tunnel Hill Community Center at 112 E Maple St., Stone Creek. This was the former Jefferson Grange where Bob and Kathy went dancing while dating and even after Bob's injuries. Kathy , Matt & Heidi, So sorry for the loss of a husband and father. Bob and I rode together to work for many years. We worked together for about 27 yrs. I have many memories of him. He will never be forgotten. I remember racing Tim G. home almost every night. He was great to be around and taught many guys at Marsh Lbr. many things. Rest in peace my friend.
