Florence Moore Obituary

Florence Harrad Moore 1917 - 2017
VAN HORNESVILLE- Florence Harrad Moore, age 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Valley Health Service, Herkimer.
She was born on April 25, 1917, in Jordanville, daughter of the late Carlton A. and Louise E. Swift Pierce. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Jordanville and graduated from Van Hornesville High School. In 1946, she married Cecil C. Harrad. He passed away on December 24, 1983. She later married Harold Moore. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She first worked as a telephone operator in Richfield Springs, then was employed at Beechnut Company in Canajoharie. In 1985, she retired as Post Mistress of the Van Hornesville Post Office, after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church, the Van Hornesville Community Corp. and the Henderson General Nicholas Herkimer, Daughters of the American Revolution.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, doing hooked rugs and playing pitch. Florence will be remembered as an easy going, caring, patriotic woman. She was truly dedicated to her work, family and friends. You knew she was always there for you in good times or sad. She never spoke a harsh word and saw the good in everyone. Florence will be sadly missed.
Surviving are a son, James Harrad and his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Jane Klump and her husband, Ronald; three granddaughters and their husbands, Tammy and Ken Sorsensen, Kimberly and Jon Steenburg, Amy and Steve Hawkes, all of Van Hornesville; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jon, Dylan, Emma, Laken, and Anna; two nephews, Alan and Roger Pierce; special cousins, Burt and Kay Knandle, of Brainerd, MN; and her beloved feline companion, Nellie Mae. Besides her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Pierce and sister-in-law, Jean.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Friday, September 15, from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m., to receive relatives and friends. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Cory Jones, from the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Van Hornesville Cemetery, immediately after the funeral service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Van Hornesville Methodist Church, Box 111, or the Van Hornesville Cemetery Assoc., PO Box 56, Van Hornesville, NY 13475.
