James "Jim" Haggerty 1945 - 2021
MOHAWK - Mr. James "Jim" Haggerty, 75, passed away, with his loving family by his side, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare.
Jim was born in Utica, July 16, 1945, the oldest son of Harold and Lucy (Albano) Haggerty. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Following high school, Jim joined the US Army and served in Vietnam. Always very patriotic, he was a proud Veteran right to the end.
On September 16, 1972, Jim married the love of his life, Rosaria Perritano. Jim and Roe have been devoted to each other and family, in every way, for over 48 loving years. He was employed as the head custodian at the Utica City School District, for almost 30 years.
Always active in the community, Jim was a member of the American Legion, Utica Post 229, where he was a past Post Commander, County Commander and District Commander. He was a member of the DAV; the Alexander Hose Co./Mohawk Fire Department; the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree; the Flub Dub Club; and the unofficial Mayor of the NYS Veterans Home, at Oxford, NY.
A dedicated family man, Jim always loved when family and friends were around. He had a great sense of humor, a very quick wit and loved to bust on everyone. Jim always supervised everything, which always made him center of attention. He maintained a connection with everyone and contacted everyone daily. A big man with a big heart, he will be truly missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Rosaria; two beloved daughters, Michele Haggerty and Christina Haggerty; two adored twin granddaughters, with whom he shared a special bond, Katherine and Josephine Aney; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Sue Haggerty; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Sue Perritano, Geraldine and Bill Denoyers and Mickey and John Hovers; aunt, Rose Nassif; and also many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, with special mention of his friend, Frank Cassella. He was predeceased by his daughter, Celeste Aney; grandson, James B. Aney; niece, Heather Haggerty; and son-in-law, Doug Dygert, all of whom were always close to his heart.
His Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021, at 12 Noon, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 71 E. Main Street, Mohawk. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Oxford Veterans Home, for the loving care and compassion shown to Jim during his stay there.

Jimmy was one of our first friends at Post 229, one of Jack's first mentors. He gave 100% to the American Legion for many years and helped Jack with many projects. Jimmy truly loved his family and we, his friends, loved him. He could easily make us laugh and we were always happy to hear his voice when he called us from the home. We'll miss you Jimmy. May God bless you and watch over you until we meet again.
