MIDDLEVILLE - Reta A. Huyck, 85, formerly of South Main Street, died on February 8, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
Reta was born on December 31, 1933 in the Town of Newport, the only child of the late Amasa Huyck and Inez (Flansburg) Huyck Fitch. She graduated from West Canada Valley Central School in 1951. In 1956, Reta started her sixty year career with E.J. Willis Co., Inc., Middleville, where she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary until her retirement in 2016. She had resided at the Masonic Care Community for the past year.
She was instrumental in the formation of West Canada Pop Warner and active with the Little League program as well. Reta served as president of the Middleville Rural Cemetery for many years and was a former Middleville Fire Commission Board member. She was also a lifelong member of the former St. Mary's Church, Middleville and member of Court Reardon #841 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Newport.
Survivors include three sons, James (Debra) Huyck, of Middleville, Thomas (Paula) Huyck, of Syracuse and Robert (Tammy) Huyck, of Westmoreland; five grandchildren, James (Sally) Huyck, of Herkimer, Jasper (Bryttani Eddy) Huyck, of Middleville, Angelina Huyck, of Syracuse and Sam and David Huyck, of Westmoreland; and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service. Spring interment will take place in Middleville Rural Cemetery.
