Karlaftis, Achreve
COLONIE - Achreve Karlaftis, 100, died Friday, October 31, 2025, at home with her family by her side. She was born in Skoura Sparta, Laconia, Greece. Her husband, George, had come to Albany from Greece to prepare a home for his wife and daughter, Frosine, in 1951. In 1953, their son, Dean was born, making their family complete. Creve raised her children at home until her youngest went to college. She then went to work for NYS Department of Tax and Finance, where she enjoyed a career of 22 years.
Her husband passed away in 2001, but Creve continued in their home in Colonie until she was joined by her daughter, Frosine and son-in-law, Jim in 2011, when her great-grandchildren were born. She was blessed to meet, play with and enjoy them for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Frosine Stolis and her husband, James; a son, Dean Karlaftis and his wife, Tina; a granddaughter, Penelope and her husband, Ryan; a grandson, George Stolis and his wife, Jami; three great-grandchildren, Dimitri, Eleni and Nia and Jami's son, Bobby Rodgers; her brother, Pano Panagopoulos and his wife, Maro, and their daughter, Elena; her sister, Angeliki Bousbouras; her husband's brother, Pano Karlaftis and his brother Christos' wife, Eleni.
Creve is also survived by her nephews, Angelos and Dimitri Panagopoulos; nieces, Yiota Panagopoulos, Mary Taris, Georgia Melas and her husband, Peter, their sons, Alex and Christo and their daughter, Maria and her husband, Paul and their children; nephews, George Marinopoulos and his wife, Lea and their children, George and Kristina, Ted Bousbouras and his wife, Vaitsa and their children, Demetri and Angeliki, Angelo Bousbouras and his wife, Andrea, Aggelos Panagopoulos and his wife, Nina, and several more nieces and nephews, here, in Skoura and Montreal that she loved.
She enjoyed driving her car to church to play cards, to knit and exercise. She always said if you stop moving, you're finished. She spent many winters in Florida, establishing many great friendships. Creve enjoyed the pool, water aerobics, playing cards, bocce and shuffleboard for many years, always finding younger players to compete with. She made new friends in her walks around the complex.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12208. The family will receive relatives and friends, Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
