Adrienne Mason was a great Aunt. (Not in genealogy, but in temperament, as in a wonderful Aunt!) I live in Michigan, and although did not get to see her much, we wrote many letters back and forth throughout the years. She and my Uncle Larry had contests--who could write the hardest-to-read letters
No, seriously, I could read them all right. They were fun. Letter writing seems to be a lost art in our world. I enjoyed them immensely...
My Aunt Adrienne and Uncle Larry were the ones who introduced me to classical music, and for this I am eternally grateful. I enjoy classical music to this very day. There are pieces of music I've known well since I was a 15 year old teenager. Playing music I've known so long is like returning to see an old friend.
I had hoped, today, to post a picture of the stuffed toy rabbit that my Aunt had gotten me when I was a small child. I had received it 50 years ago, when I was 5! I know for certain that I still have it--though due to multiple moves, it seems to have eluded me at the moment. I liked the soft fur of my Aunt Adrienne's coat sleeves, and she responded by getting me that gift.
A search through the rabbit hole (my totally overcrowded storage unit) failed to produce it but hopefully soon I'll be able to post a picture of it. It would have been nice to post it today, though! 50 years ago, and I've still got it! I found an another toy that was always with it--I'm guessing I put it someplace safe, where I wouldn't lose it.
My aunt nicknamed her cottage Toad Hall. I don't have many statues or collectibles in my place, but at the moment I DO have two live toads and two live tree frogs!
I know that she and my Uncle Larry had a hard time of it in her later years, due to her illness. But I also know that they made the world a better place through teaching and sharing the beautiful music that they did.
Rest in Peace, and God Bless.
Amen.

I miss my sister-in-law very much. I share memories of her with my son, Scott, often. We recall her love of cats, Kliban books, & her love of music.
I still have many of the letters she wrote to me, & pictures of her children, & grandson. She was a wonderful person, & I will always remember her. Lin-2019

It had been a long time since I had seen my Aunt Adrienne. Although we lived in separate states, during my childhood I got many a gift from her and my Uncle Larry, and exchanged letters frequently. They introduced me to my love of classical music that I enjoy to this day. It was always with great excitement that I anticipated a package that would arrive just before Christmas during my teenage years.
I still have a stuffed white rabbit that she bought me, after a visit here when I was about five. I liked the soft fur on her coat sleeves, and the fur of the stuffed rabbit was soft like her coat.
I remember getting letters from my Aunt, with the return address filled out as Toad Hall. I had heard about her collection of toad figurines. I suppose it's possible a love of animals and cats rubbed off, as I only have one cat, but 4 toads in my place. Real ones lol.
In any case, although I had not seen her in many years, I will always cherish the memories of my childhood, and remember with fondness her love for life. Her love for cats, toads, music, gardening, skiing, and especially music, which she was generous enough to share along with Uncle Larry in LP records, all of which I still have.
She will be sorely missed.

While I hadn't seen Adrienne in a very long time, the memories of her friendship through the Westmere "crowd" has always brought a smile to my face. I am so saddened that such a lovely and vibrant presence is gone from the world.

I met Adrienne over 15 years ago when she brought one of her cats to my newly opened clinic. She was an amazing woman with such love for life and all of God's creatures. She always had a contagious smile and a story about one of her furry friends. My prayers go out to her entire family and friends. We were all so blessed by her presence in this world.

To the family and friends of Mrs. Mason -
Mrs. Mason was my music teacher at Westmere Elementary before Nixon was in the White House. She was influential in sparking my interest in music. Many basics of musicianship and bios of Shubert, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Nat King Cole remain with me. Over the years, I have regaled my husband with stories of my music class days, and I would like to think those stories made him a better music teacher and choir director. Without Mrs Mason, Mrs. Kingsland (née Walsh) would not have had a stellar foundation on which to build our middle school voices. I've instilled that appreciation in my son, who is a musician. It's not goodbye Mrs. Mason; simply au revoir.
A forever grateful student,

Adrienne was a truly joyous person. After the kids were in her music classes at Westmere, my daughter continued with piano lessons. Recitals were a classic 20+ people stuffed into the living room, overflow on the side porch, cats put away for the day, and her students presented their accomplishments. She always had a smile and a giggle she brightened many lives. Thoughts and prayers to her family.

I met Adrienne while she was teaching at Westmere School, I attended many functions with that group. My wife Sue taught with Adrienne for many years at Westmere so we both had the privilege of knowing her. She loved competition and no one loved winning more than Ace. Tennis, volleyball, racketball and the list goes on.
Sue and I send our condolences and prayers to Larry and her family. The choir just received a wonder voice.

I knew Adrienne for many years at Westmere Elementary School. We shared many happy times. I enjoyed playing the piano for Adrienne's choruses at the school concerts. She always did such a wonderful job with the kids. They enjoyed working with her and gave her their best ! Adrienne always had a "happy smile" for the world. My condolences to the family.

To Adrienne's family:
Her parents, Ruthie and Victor, were my godparents, and the two of us were born in the same year. Our paths crossed often throughout our lives, and her great musical gifts and personal charm shone out always. Once heard, her singing voice couldn't be forgotten, and those of us who listened were blessed. May her rest be in song!

Adrienne was wonderful to work with at Westmere Elementary. Spending time outside the classroom was memorable. She was a treasure. Deepest sympathies to the family.
