Catello, Alexander
RAVENA - Alexander P. Catello, 87, passed away July 20, 2024, in St. Peter's Hospital. He is the son of the late Sebastian and Victoria Catello.
Alex was a 1955 graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School and earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Hudson Valley Community College. He had worked for Conrail, Bethlehem Police Dept. and retired as a corrections officer from Brookwood Secure Center for Youth in Claverack, N.Y.
Alex was an active member of the Coxsackie Sportsman's Club for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting and target shooting with family and friends. He also enjoyed his yearly hunting trip to Northern Maine for bear, deer and moose with a close group of friends. Alex was the Easter Bunny for 50+ years and delivered many Easter Baskets and lots of candy to family and friends' children.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 50 years, Anne Marie Catello; children, Mark Catello, Sean (Michelle) Catello and Kristen (Paul) VanSlyke; daughter-in-law, Benay Catello Bullis; grandchildren, Mark (Christina), Christopher (Pauline) and Eric, all Catello, Rachel (Mike) Duffy, Luisa (Jerry) DeJoy, David Mihalko, Amber (Dillion) Lawson, Joshua (Kendra) Catello, Tristen Catello, Brook Catello, and Brandon and Reagan VanSlyke; great-grand-children, Ryan, Tyler Caiden Zachary Catello, Jaxon and Alyssa Reyes, Jaxson and Cameron Lapp.
Alex was predeceased by his daughter, Stacey Catello; son, Scott Catello; and great-granddaughter, Sofia Catello.
Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Thursday, July 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26, at The Church of St. Patrick, Ravena. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.

Many years ago, Alex had the distinction of being the officer who gave me my first traffic ticket. He was a true gentleman. As I got out of the first ticket, he also gave me my second one. I always have had the greatest respect for him. May he Rest in Peace. My sincerest condolences to all of you.
