Alexander Melas

Melas, Alexander ALBANY Alexander Melas, 84, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Albany, the son of the late George and Eugenia Gotsis Melas. He resided in Albany all of his life and was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, Troy. Alexander was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 137th Maintenance Battalion, during World War II. After the war, Alex was a carpenter and estimator for Albany County and the N.Y.S OGS, retiring in 1990. Mr. Melas was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Albany and the Order of the Ahepa. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann C. Melas; beloved sons, Mark (Cathy) Melas of East Aurora, N.Y. and Peter (Georgia) Melas of Loudonville, N.Y.; brother, Michael (Jane) Melas, Md. of Albany; sisters, Christine Marcklinger, Colonie, Irene (Nicholas) Glinos, Albany and Angie Koutelis, Albany; grandchildren, Zachary, Nathaniel, Abigail, Elijah, Alexander, Maria and Christo Melas; also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be Thursday 10 a.m., November 13, 2008 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany. Relatives and friends are also invited to call Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. A Trisagion memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. Those who wish, are requested to make donations to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.
