Alice Kramer Obituary

Kramer, Alice (Breitman) SLINGERLANDS Alice Kramer, born Alice Breitman in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1919, passed away at the Beverwyck Nursing home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 after a five year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Daughter of Charles and Beatrice Landsman Breitman, Alice lived most of her life in Brooklyn, on Long Island, Boca Raton, Fla., and Southbury, Conn. She graduated from Adelphi College in 1936 and worker as a school librarian on Long Island. Alice will be remembered for her intelligence, lifelong support of social justice and her amazing sense of adventure which included traveling to China and helicopter hiking in the Canadian Rockies. She was a killer bridge player and could place a tennis ball in the one spot her opponent could never get to. She will be truly missed by family and friends. Along with her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband, Dan Kramer. She is survived by her daughter, Laura; son, Douglas; grandchildren, Abby, Ben and Robbie; and three great-grandchildren. There will be no fuenral service and burial will be conducted privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 1-800-272-3900 or the American Civil Liberties Union, 1-888-567-ACLU.
