LENOX, Mass. - Andrew Alfred Matthews, Jr., age 87, formerly of Dalton and Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at Kimball Farms in Lenox, Mass.
Born on February 24, 1938, in Troy, N.Y., Andy was the son of the late Andrew Alfred Matthews, Sr. and Margaret (Benson) Matthews. He was raised in Watervliet, N.Y., and was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. Andy earned his bachelor's degree from Siena College in 1959 and went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School in 1963.
On February 9, 1963, Andy married the former Judith Ludwig. Together they shared 62 years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary this past February.
Andy spent his professional career as an attorney with the General Electric Company. His work took him and his wife around the world, including a memorable two-year assignment living in Tokyo, Japan, prior to his retirement in March of 1998.
Above all, Andy was a devoted family man. He especially cherished an annual family trip to Bethany Beach, Del., a tradition that spanned 55 years. He loved golf and was a longtime member of the Country Club of Pittsfield. He valued the close friendships he formed over a lifetime and especially enjoyed weekly lunches with his friends. Andy was a man of great character with a unique sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Andy was also an avid skier who enjoyed the slopes of Jiminy Peak and continued skiing until the age of 80. He and his wife shared a lifelong passion for travel.
In addition to his beloved wife, Judy, Andy is survived by his children, Diane Parks and her husband, John, and their children, Ryan and Natalie; Andrew "Matt" Matthews III; and Karen Mastrantoni, her husband Mario, and their children Andrew, Jack, and Abby. He is also survived by his siblings, Helen Gilmore and her husband Peter, and John Matthews and his wife Marie.
Services: Friends are invited to join the Matthews family at St. Ann Parish, 134 Main Street, Lenox, Mass., for a Mass on Saturday, January 3, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow. Burial will take place at a later date.
