Anna Gross Obituary

Gross, Anna (Sizzie Nunnie)
TROY - Anna Gross (Sizzie Nunnie), celebrated as the oldest woman in Troy, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2026, at the remarkable age of 106.
Born on July 26, in Troy, to the late Giovannine and Gennaro Riggione, Anna was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Gross Sr. Together, they shared a lifetime filled with love, devotion, and family.
Anna's children were her pride and joy, and she radiated warmth whenever she spoke of them. She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Mary Grace Gross-Romeo (Mike); and is survived by her loving sons, Tony (Annarose), Joseph (Carol), and Nick (Lynn) Gross, all of North Greenbush.
She was a devoted grandmother to 14 grandchildren, Joey (Nora), Nick (Rianne), Annalisa (Rich), Anthony (Teresa), Renata, Nick (Brittney), Mark (Brooke), Nicole (Nick), Michael, Stephen, Joanna, Angelica (Nick), Christopher (Brittany) and Madeline. She was a proud great-grandmother to 20 great-grandchildren, each of them brought her immense joy and purpose.
Deeply faithful, Anna found comfort and strength in her faith, often praying her daily rosary. She enjoyed reading, playing cards on Tuesday nights, and watching Law & Order. Anna cherished her time at the Italian Community Center, participated in weekly "Mr. & Mrs." club nights, and relished bus trips to Concord. Friday nights were particularly special, as she hosted pizza night, bringing her family together to enjoy her famous pizza pie.
Her annual trips to Florida created treasured memories that she fondly recalled throughout her life.
Known for her kindness, strength, and unwavering work ethic, Anna embodied a love for her family that was truly inspiring. A devoted mother, a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and a treasured aunt, her presence will be sorely missed.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Anna was predeceased by her siblings, Mildred Riggione-Ionnatota (Tony) Nicholas Riggione (Edith), Mary Riggione-Casale (Charles) and Louis Riggione (Angelina). She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who filled her days with joy.
Anna's legacy of love, faith, resilience, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those who carry her memory forward.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Special thanks are also extended to her devoted granddaughter, Joanna for her dedicated and loving caretaking, as well as Rianne Romeo, and Stephanie Gezzo for their kindness and support.
The funeral service for Anna will be held on Saturday morning, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend, and may call at the church, on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m.
Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Troy.

My sincere condolences to the Gross family. Nunnie was my mom's (Mary Riggione Renna) first cousin. I have many memories of being at Nunnies house when I was young, and playing with Mary Grace, who was 2 years younger than I. I also have memories of seeing all at the Malta Inn. May Nunnie rest in peace, you were all so lucky to have her in your lives for 106 years.

Oh, I have the best memories of Mrs. Gross, growing up as a little girl we lived behind them, with Mary Grace being my very good friend. Matter fact, Mary Grace was my very first friend in that neighborhood as we were all building our houses. And would always make sure, under a great protest that she would dig out all the beans and the green stuff from the pasta Fazool that she made and put that bowl in front of me, Because I was such a picky eater, she say what the hell is left in there for you to eat! But she also made the best pizza. My memories of her are wonderful and I´m sure they´re getting a great person in heaven so she can join everybody else that went before her and let me tell you there´s many. Love you, Anne always did then and always will now!

My deepest sympathy to The Gross Family. This is going to be hard, but I know how wonderful and strong each of you are. It was my pleasure to have taught many of Nana's grandchildren and I know how good and wonderful they are. Certainly their character came from their grandparents and parents. May God bless each of you with strength and faith to get through this time and honor Nana by living your best life and loving each other.

I worked with Mary Grace at the JoAnne Shop. Her mom would come in every week to get her hair done. She was such a lovely lady. As was Mary Grace. I remember when Mike proposed to Mary Grace. How happy she was. But her greatest joy were her children. May God bless Mrs. Gross and know she is with Mary Grace and all of her loved ones who welcomed her with open arms. My deepest sympathy to his family.
