Miani, Armando "Tony"
LATHAM - Armando Anthony Miani, affectionately known as "Tony," of Latham, N.Y., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, October 14, 2025, at the age of 99.
Tony was born in Italy on June 14, 1926, and came to America with his family when he was four years old. He grew up in Derby, Conn., and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., where he studied electrical engineering. While at RPI, he helped to found the TKE fraternity. It was at a fraternity open house that he met a pretty 16 year old girl from the neighborhood named Nancy Cacciotti. As the story goes, she sat down to play the piano, and he joined in on the accordion, a duet that marked the beginning of a lifelong love story.
After their marriage, Tony and Nancy moved around the country while he worked on the Nike missile program for Western Electric. Eventually, they settled in the Albany area, where they put down roots and raised their family. Together they built a successful business, A to Z Rental Center, which later grew to include About Town Party Rentals and Balloons. Tony was also a longtime member of the Colonie Kiwanis Club and Saint Ambrose Church in Latham.
Tony was known for his endless supply of dad jokes, his love of crossword and jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku, and his undying devotion to the N.Y. Giants. He maintained an enormous garden every summer, especially tomatoes, even though he didn't like to eat them. A lifelong tinkerer, Tony loved experimenting with new hobbies and gadgets. Whether it was building electrical kits, learning calligraphy, repairing something around the house, or building a fish pond, he was always eager to try something new.
More than anything, Tony loved his family. Family was everything to him. During his final years at the Eddy Village Green, he cherished looking through family photos on his digital frame, proudly sharing stories and reminding everyone who visited that family was the most important thing in life. Even the Shahbaz staff at Village Green House 21 became a part of our family. They were so good to Tony, he called them his "angels," and always complimented them on their colorful uniforms.
Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy (née Cacciotti); his brother, Leon Miani; and his sister, Rita Grassi. He is survived by his sister, Philemona DeMichele; his children, Mark (Kathryn) Miani, Marisa (James) Reed, Gina (Steve) Detwiler, and John (Janet) Miani; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 9 to 10 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum. In honor of Tony's love of bright colors, we encourage those in attendance to wear colorful clothing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's memory to Samaritan Hospital and The Eddy Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, N.Y 12208. Condolence book and memorial page at
