Beatrice M. "Betty" Haswell

Haswell, Beatrice "Betty" M. EAST GREENBUSH Beatrice "Betty" M. Haswell, 92, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the Evergreen Commons, after a short illness. Betty was born April 15, 1924 in Penarth, South Wales, the youngest of four children of the late George Turpitt and Anne Soley. During World War II, she was drafted to work in supermarine factories, as an electrical inspector on the British Ace fighter plane The Spitfire. As the War ended, Betty met and wed Sgt. Karl Gassler, and became a G.I. bride, moving to America. In the early 1960's, Karl had an untimely death, leaving Betty a widow with a daughter, Sharleen. Betty then met and married Richard G. Haswell, whom would have been wed 50 years this month. She never lost her love for Wales and made many visits there to family members and she opened her arms for family that visited the States. In addition to her husband, Richard; she is survived by her daughter, Sharleen Brittell; two granddaughters, Justine and Erin Brittell; and her great-grandchildren, twin boys, Cameron and Tristan Hinchcliff and Emmie Pettis. The family wishes to thank the Staff of Evergreen Commons for their patience and care while Betty was there.
