Bernice A. Ash

Ash, Bernice A. TROY Bernice A. Ash, 95, of the Eddy and formerly of Troy, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center. She was born on August 28, 1915 in Concord, and was the daughter of the late Sherdon and Eva Kenney Locke. She was the wife of the late Willis S. Ash who died in March of 1995. Mrs. Ash was a housewife and homemaker. She was raised and educated in New Hampshire and came to the Capital District about 70 years ago. In her early years, she was employed by Consolidated Heat Co in Albany as a machinist. She was a CB enthusiast known as "Penny" and she loved to bowl at the Latham and Menands Lanes. She was a regular at Racino and it was hard to pull her away from the slots. Bernice loved animals of all kinds. She was a competitive card player and enjoyed gathering with her family for a game of wild cards. She was the mother of Willis S. (the late Theresa) Ash Jr. of Troy and Bernice A. (the late Jack) Ricci of Clifton Park; sister of George (Frances) Locke of Troy, Dorothy Rowell of Concord, N.H. and the late Earl Locke, Buster Locke, Samuel Locke, Donald Locke, Louis Locke and John Locke; grandmother of Pamela (Chris) Petersen, Willis S. (Marlene) Ash, Dennis Ash, Cynthia (James) Benedict, Lisa (William) Deerfield, Paul (Amy) Ricci, Jim Ricci, David (Paige) Ricci, Patrick (Karen) Ricci and Steven (Lisa) Ricci; nineteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive her. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park and thence to St. Edward the Confessor Church, where at 9:00 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
