Banks, Bertha
STILLWATER - Bertha (Bert) Banks, passed away peacefully in her home in Stillwater on April 10, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on July 25, 1936, in Hartley, Iowa, Bertha grew up to be a strong young woman who joined the United States Army in 1955, at the age of 19. There, she met her husband and lifetime partner, William Banks, and they married in February of 1957. Bert served honorably in the army until March 1957, when she moved to Stillwater, New York with her husband, Bill. It was there that she started her family and continued to build her legacy. Bert was an avid sports fan, with the New York Yankees being her absolute favorite team. Bert loved attending her grandkids' sports games in Stillwater and Mechanicville, including basketball, volleyball, baseball, bowling and football. She was arguably the most passionate person in the stands anywhere she went! Bert also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Bert was predeceased by her husband, William Banks; and daughter, Kathy McCadden. Bert is lovingly survived by her children: John Banks, Debra Comorski, Pamela Banks, and Robert Banks. Bert is also survived by six grandchildren, Patricia (Cody) Schreifels, James Hill, John McCadden, William Bolton, John Banks Jr., and Raymond Ward. Finally, Bert is survived by her five great-grandchildren, Cody Schreifels Jr., Sadie Schreifels, Camden Bolton, Riley Bolton, Corey Bolton, and Hudson Ward. Bert, "Gramma B," will be greatly missed. Her humor, positive spirit, and ability to bring everyone around her happiness, will not go forgotten. Special thanks to The Community Hospice for helping with comfort measures to allow a peaceful passing at home. Bertha's interment will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetary with military honors on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. Bertha's family asks that you consider donating in her memory to The Community Hospice, as her family will be walking in her honor on June 15, 2024, with a team name of "Bert's Bees."
