LATHAM - Bette J. Swartfigure, 84, of Marconi Dr., passed away peacefully at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her loving niece and caregiver at her side on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born in Waterford, she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth Barrett Swartfigure. She was a 1959 graduate of Waterford High School.
Bette had been employed by the former Niagara Mohawk Co. for over 30 years and retired in 1995. In her retirement, she coordinated the Pension Club luncheons at Niagara Mohawk.
She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford and was a choir member and soloist there for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed spending time with friends and playing cards. She was an animal lover and had many Cocker Spaniels and cats over the years.
She was predeceased by her siblings, George Swartfigure and Marsha Hertel. She is survived by her brother-in-law, George Hertel of Branford, Fla. She is the aunt of James and Thomas Hertel of Orlando, Fla., Sally Chiera of Latham and the late Kathleen Hertel. She is the grandaunt of Sofia and Gabriel Hertel. She is also survived by a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rt. 32), Waterford, and at noon, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., prior to the funeral.
