Carol Reiter Obituary

Reiter, Carol
GLENVILLE - Carol J. Reiter, 91, of Glenville, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Home of the Good Shepherd Assisted Living Facility in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Carol was born in Illinois and grew up a Pastor's Daughter living in various locations but considered Marinette, Wisconsin her home. She grew up living with her parents and sister, Patsy. After completing high school, she studied and received her Masters in Nursing from Colombia University in New York City.
After completing her formal studies, Carol began her nursing and teaching career. While working in Illinois, she reconnected with her childhood friend, Richard Reiter, and his "two little urchins" Diane and Daniel. Carol married Richard on July 14, 1966 and they were happily married for 57 years. As a family they lived in Glenville, NY and Carol continued her Psychiatric Nursing and teaching career at various institutions in the region. She proudly took on the role as her stepchildren's mother, and grandmother to Diane's children later in life.
Carol and Richard enjoyed spending time together with their close friends from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where they dedicated much of their time, including attending prayer groups, and regular involvement in social events. She served as the Parish Nurse for many years and was a regular member of the Church Choir. Together they also looked forward to their yearly summer trip to Nantucket where they had many good times with their special church family.
Experiencing classical music was special to Carol. With Richard she attended many local concerts. Carol was always singing and her familiar hum could be heard whenever there was music playing, which was often the soundtrack of their home. She was especially proud to be a part of her gospel choir group 'The Glad Sound,' which recorded a record in the 1980s.
Carol is survived by daughter, Diane Reiter Staalesen and her partner Paul Jancsy; daughter-in-law, Linda (Daniel) Reiter; two grandchildren, Jason Staalesen and his wife Stacey, Sherri Lehan and her husband Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Staalesen and Landon Lehan; as well as sister, Patsy (Johansson) Mader; sister-in-law, Carol (Gerald) Boyd Reiter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Family waiting for her in heaven include her beloved husband, Richard; her parents, Robert and Ruth Johansson; brother-in-law, Rev. Gerald Reiter; and son, Daniel Reiter.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 547 Saratoga Rd., Glenville, NY 12303 at 12:30pm on November 30, 2023 where Carol will find her eternal resting place. The Church was very important to Carol, where she dedicated many years of service and continued to practice her deep faith in the Lord.
