Catherine Button Obituary

Button, Catherine WATERFORD Catherine "Kay" Button, 92, of 3rd St., died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at her residence. Born in Waterford, she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Henry V. Button Sr. and Bertha Belle Deaner Button and was the great -grand-daughter of Lysander Button, the founder of the world renowned Button Fire Engine Co. She was a 1937 graduate of Waterford High School and had attended Emma Willard. Kay was employed at RPI as a secretary and retired in 1982. Prior to that, she was employed by the General Electric Co. in Waterford and Schenectady and had also served as legal secretary for Thomas Brown Esq. of Albany. A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Water-ford, now the First United Church, she had taught Sunday School there. She was a 28-year member of the Waterford Study Club, now Waterford Women's Club; she was a literary volunteer in Troy, was a member of the Waterford Museum and Cultural Center and had been active in the Meals on Wheels Program in Waterford. Survivors include her nephews, Henry Button of Seattle, Wash. and Gregory Button of Nashville, Tenn. Surviving also is her faithful and loyal companion, Miss Kayleigh as well as her extended family including the David Hilton Family, Amy and Ray Orton and Christine and Dr. Bill Gratton, all of Waterford. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Henry V. Button Jr. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Church of Waterford, 3rd and Division St. Interment will be in the family lot in Waterford Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford Friday 3-7 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions to the Billy Graham Association in care of the funeral home office.
