Fabi, Charles "Chuck" Joseph
MECHANIICVILLE - Charles "Chuck" Joseph Fabi, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Also known as "Wade" for his uncanny resemblance to legendary football coach, Wade Phillips, the self-proclaimed "Commander of Greenwood Avenue" was born and lived in Mechanicville his entire life. A graduate of Mechanicville High School class of 1980, Chuck was a car salesman at Izzo's, Terry Morris and New Country, a bartender at The Commercial Hotel, and later went on to work at DeCrescente's Distributing for over 28 years. He was very dedicated to his family, helping to take care of parents when they got older, especially during his mother's long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was extremely proud of his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and was universally loved by everyone. He had clever nicknames for everyone, not all of them nice, but always out of love. He always had the best quick, witty retorts and a contagious personality that his friends, family, and coworkers all gravitated towards. He loved nothing more than a good time, throwing the best parties for birthdays, graduations, and his annual trademarked Quack Quack Hall of Fame ceremonies. He came up with the craziest games, funniest slideshow packets, and best prizes for these celebrations. He was always blaring his favorite southern rock tunes, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd or Marshall Tucker Band, whether it was in the car or on his Truly bluetooth speaker, which could happen at all times of the day or night. His favorite pastimes included busting chops with everyone indiscriminately, particularly with sisters, children, nieces and nephews, especially his son, Carl Lawrence, and his nephew, Edward Charles, named after him, and his world-famous culinary delights. He was well-known for his apple crumb pies, clam chowder, subs, and toasted hard rolls. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, and he had a deep hatred for GOAT athletes such Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, and Lebron James. He was also known to partake in the occasional $10 Cashword scratcher and bet a horse from time to time.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Kathleen Fabi, whom they were the happiest divorced couple ever; his children, Carl (Katlynn) Fabi, Mary (Matthew) Wrobel, and Sarah Fabi; four grandchildren, Cassidy (The General), Aria (Ari Ari Ari), Lucas (Lukey-Doo), and Charleigh Wren (Stubbs), to whom he was known as "Papa"; four sisters, Patricia (Edward) Ryder, Catherine (David) Ryan, Mary (Salvatore) Cimino, and Barbara Fabi; six nieces and nephews, four great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved to drop in and see their "Uncle Chuck", and countless friends and colleagues who adored him, most notably his childhood best friends, Joe "Wheels" Lanzone and David "Conehead" Clements.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Carl F. and Nancy P. Fabi; his brother-in-law, Edward "Ted" Ryder; his favorite granddog, Duke, who was named after him; and of course his favorite musician of all-time, Jimmy Buffett, who once sang, "some of its magic and some of it's tragic but I had a good life all the way."
