LATHAM - Charles F. Hopeck, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Troy Center for Nursing & Rehab.
Born and raised in Watervliet and then Mechanicville, Charles was the son of the late Albert and Sophie Malinowski Hopeck. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at a young age and proudly served his country. After returning home, he was employed at McCreary's Machine Shop and Bilinski's Sausage Co. both in Cohoes. Then, he spent most of his career working as a welder for General Electric in Albany until retiring in 1992.
Charles was a communicant of St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cohoes and was a member of the former Catholic War Veterans, St. Demetrius Post #236. He enjoyed camping and fishing in the Adirondacks as well as bowling in his younger years.
Family always played an important role in Charles' life, and he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and brother. He was the loving husband of the late Ann Tynio Hopeck and brother of the late Edward and Robert Hopeck. He is survived by his beloved son, Charles F. Hopeck, Jr. of Latham as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. in St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-6 p.m.
A Panakhyda service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 6 p.m.
