Chester Maciag Obituary

Maciag, Chester S. NISKAYUNA Chester S. Maciag, 83, of Niskayuna, N.Y. passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born on April 7, 1927 in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Benedyk and Anna nee, Pierzga Maciag. He was a lifelong area resident, attended local schools and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his Navy service, Chet started working at 3M in Schenectady and continued for over 35 years until going to work for General Electric Global Research in Niskayuna for 16 years, retiring in 1989. Chet was a member of the Polish National Alliance and he enjoyed golfing and bowling. He loved being in the outdoors, working in the garden, and was very mechanical, enjoying working with his hands and fixing things. Most of all Chet loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Maciag. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth nee, White Maciag whom he married on November 21, 1954; two daughters, Eileen (Don) Rappold and Susan (Rob) Service, both of Niskayuna; four grandchildren, Erin and Timothy Rappold, and Brendan and Shannon Service; four sisters, Jessie Kaszuba of Schenectady, Lillian Jurcsak of Scotia, Genevieve Stec of Schenectady and Joan (William) Hungerschafer of Rotterdam Junction; and several nieces, and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany St., Schenectady. The burial will follow in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
