Hi Cliff,
Happy Birthday! Cannot believe how this past year flew by as we again called Jim for his birthday and he is still hanging in there. Take care and we will hopefully talk again next year. All the best, Dick and Ginger

Hi Cliff,
Happy birthday! Another year has come and gone - it seems that every year goes by so quickly. Ginger and I came up to Albany and were able to have a great dinner with Joan and our old friend Chris and his wife. Unfortunately Chris had a stroke and died in January 2017 followed by Ginger's mom in March 2017. So we continue to enjoy every day and live our lives to the fullest. We spoke to Jim Reil for his birthday on July 5th - his wife has died, but he remarried at the ripe ole' age of 80. He managed to run out of gas this week and tried to push his car off the road and ended up in the hospital and just got home in time for his 81st birthday. Take care and rest in peace.

Happy Birthday Cliff.. I haven't been able to get into the archived obituaries for some time. Time is going by so fast. James graduated HVCC & will be attending Plattsburgh State in August for Criminal Justice. CJ is now an Albany cop & married. Craig is in his 3rd term of Sheriff. Pat will be in St Francis College in Hartford, CT for his Masters in Pharmacy. He is also engaged. The other boys are working & hopfully will go back to school. Derek & Beth are living in Saratoga & doing well. Grady & Annie are both getting big & smart. Everyone else is doing well. Dick & Ginger are back in the states. I sure wish you were here. We could be doing so many things together but I guess God had a plan for you. I'm in the process of selling the house & moving to a 55+ apartment complex. I think about you every day. Take care & I'll try to write ahain soon. Love, Joan

Hi Cliff, It's been a while since I've entered in this book. It is so very hard for me to do but didn't want your birthday to go by. Life is going fast. We now have two Great Grandchildren, Graydon & Annalyn. would you believe that her middle name is Joan. She has the name and look of a little southern bell. Just to update you, CJ is an Albany City police officer and is getting married Sept. 19. Kyle is working and doing his thing right now & Cameron just graduated high School. Beth & Derek just moved back from Boston. He is working at CVS as a head pharmacist & for another year, Beth is a stay at home mom. Pat is still at CVS and will be attending college in LI working toward his Physician's Assistant degree. James is in his second year at HVCC & as of now is leaning towards Forensic Toxicology. Ayla turned 3 in January and is in dance and theater & swimming. She's a very smart little girl. Our kids are all doing well. I just wish every day that you were here so we could do more with them all. Life is just so lonely but I'm doing the best that I can. Soon, I hope to be moving into a 55+ place in Glenmont. I hate leaving here but there are just too many memories. Still keeping in touch with Dick & Ginger. Talked to them via Skype yesterday. Hoping to see them soon. We had a close call this past year with Butch. He is still on the mend but doing much better. God was on his side. Still see Mary & Paul often. Paul is now retired. Say hello to everyone. Again, Happy Birthday. I love & miss you very much.

Hi Cliff,
Time goes by so quickly that we cannot believe it has been 10 years since you have left us. We just spent 3 days with Brother Jimmy Reil and one of his remarks was that he always enjoyed your laughter. It was a great time we had with him as you were the topic of many of our discussions regarding the past and all the memories of our childhood in Albany. RIP Brother Dick and Ginger

April 10, 2015

Hi Cliff, It's hard to believe ten years has gone by since you left us. It seems like yesterday. All our kids are doing well now. Butch had a big setback last year and the beginning of this year. With the help of God and everyone's prayers, he's doing well. Still has a little way to go. The grandkids are all working and/or going to school. Cam graduates this year from high school and CJ is getting married in Sept. We are now great grandparents. Beth & Derek have a boy, Grady and a little 5 mo. old Annie. I'm still missing you every day but hanging in. Just got back from visiting Chris. Little Ayla is now 3 years old and getting big. I wish you could have seen these little ones. Keeping in touch with Dick & Ginger. Ginger just retired so they have been doing a little traveling. I'm preparing myself to make a move out of this house. It's bittersweet but I know that I have to do it. I often wonder what we would have done if you were here. The Yankees are playing Boston tonight so I am going to watch the game. Say "hello" to everyone. I love you and surely miss you. Joan

Dear Cliff,
Veteran's Day just passed once again. This was a great tribute to all those who have served the country including you and me. I guess this is a thank you for all the silent heroes. We were in London and visited the Tower of London where there is an exhibit of over 888,000 poppies for each person killed in WWI. It was really very special to see and then we spent the day remembering the second world war veterans and all the other wars since then where soldiers have fallen for their country.
Take care,
Ginger and Richard

Hi Cliff,
We just celebrated our birthdays on the 8th and 9th of July. I have turned 81 and you would have been 83. We sure had fun in our early years in Albany. Now Ginger and I are enjoying Belgium and I remember when we both were serving in Europe. There is 100 year remembrance for World War I this year. Rest in peace, Brother Richard

June 15, 2014

Happy Father's Day Cliff. I wish so much that you were here to celebrate this day. You would be excited to know that James ending his Senior year at Averill Park HS. Their baseball team came to a halt yesterday with a loss in the State Championship 3-2. James sure carried the team. He's become an excellent baseball player. Plans on attending HVCC this year and hopefully will be drafted for their baseball team. Today is his last concert in the Averill Park Town Park. The end of another journey. You would just love to hear him play the sax. Actually, he's using the same sax that his father used in high school. The family is doing well. I can't tell you how much I miss you. Life on my part is just so lonely. Everyone has their own life. Spent three weeks going between NC, SC & Fl. It was great spending time with Fran. We have so much in common and we laughed and talked and cried together. Went to Chris' for a week. Ayla is such a pretty little girl and so smart. Wish that I could see them more. Plane fair is so expensive and the kids don't want me to drive by myself. CJ has become an Albany Police Office. So proud of him. Kyle is working at Delmonios and going to school at HVCC. This upcoming year is Cam's senior yr. Pat is still attending school for Phys. Asst. Made the Presidents List this year. Still working at CVS and doing his DJ stuff on weekends. Beth's little guy, Graydon just turned 1 on the 12th of June. She is now pregnant for #2. It doesn't seem possible that we are Greatgrandparents of 2 already and Cathy and Bob are grandparents.
Wish Dad and everyone a Happy Father's Day. As the saying goes, "Until we meet again", I love you. Joan

Hi Dad. Its been some time since I have written but it doesn't mean I haven't missed you. I think about you often. Hard to believe its been nine years that you have been gone. So much has changed in this world and not much for the better. I hope that you are in that better place.
James is in his last quarter of his senior year in high school and I can't believe that his graduation is just around the corner. He had his first varsity baseball game last night and went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run. He looked like a Thurman Munson Jr!
I have lots to write and catch up on but need to get to work. Today, I will be thinking of you all of the good times we have had and I will write again soon. Love you Dad.

Dear Cliff,
Just got off the phone with Joanie. She is doing fine and your whole family is doing a great job in their lives - you would be very proud of each of them. Stop and think and you will know how many years it has been since we joined the army on St. Patrick's Day. My recollection is 64 years ago. Take care and rest in peace, Dick and Ginger

March 13, 2014

Hi Cliff, It's been a while since I've written. There's a lot going on but St. Patricks Day is coming up on Monday and just wanted to wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day in case I didn't get a chance to later. This computer is not working right lately so it's hit and miss. I just spent a week in Boston with Beth and baby Graydon. He is beautiful and thought of you all the while I was there. We all miss you and I think of all the things we could be doing at this stage of our lives. I still keep in touch with Dick and Ginger and hope to see them again soon. Ayla turned 2 in January and is also beautiful. Chris just loves his little girl. You will be surprised to know that Craig recently got engaged to Cheryl. No wedding date set yet. CJ is now a police office and doing well. He fell and broke his elbow but will be back to work soon. James is in the jazz band and keeps mentioning how happy you would be. I sure wish that you were here with us. I am going to see Chris and his family for a week and then meet up with Fran at her house and fly to W. Palm Beach to spend a few days with Di and Will. Then I'll fly back home from Charlotte. I hate going alone but have no options unless I stay here. I will try to be in touch before I leave. Love, Joan

Hi Cliff,
Happy Veterans Day! Not much news except the world seems to be in turmoil and a lot of veterans have been lost and never finished their tours. Along family lines, we talk to Joan frequently and now and then to Jimmy whose wife has passed away. We are trying to meet Jimmy in Ireland for a football game next year between Penn State and Notre Dame. We hear that most of your family is going to be at Cathy and Bob's for Thanksgiving. Take care and rest in peace, Ginger and Dick

March 29, 2013

Hi Cliff,
We did send a message on the anniversary of our military service, but for some reason it did not make it into your guest book so we are trying again for Easter. I will always remember when we pledged our commitment to the U.S. army on St. Patrick's Day 63 years ago. I also tell Ginger about how we used to go to Washington Park for photographs on Easter Sunday with our new clothes being displayed. Chet always had us dressed up for the day. Thinking of you, Dick

March 17, 2013

Good Morning, cliff. It's been a while since I've written but not a day goes buy that you're not thought of. The kids and I are doing fine but sometimes it's difficult. Dick, Ginger and I stay in touch. Little Ayla is attempting to walk and should any day. She was 1 yr. old in January. Our little Bethanne and Derek are having a baby boy. As of now it's due on July 8. Imagine that...we will be Great Grandparents. This year is going so fast. Cheryl lost her Dad And his Mother early this year. Two extremely nice people. Her Mom, Lori, and i do lunch or a movie once in a while. Paul had surgery earlir this year and made out well. He also stopped smoking. Everyone is very proud of him. Mary and I are still gong to the gym.
James made Averill Park High School Varsity team this year. Also his travel team has started practice. CJ is going to Plattsburgh State College and doing well, Kyle is still deciding what he wants to do yet. Cam is going to work at Kurver this Summer and not play ball. Beth and Derek are dong well at their jobs in Boston and Pat is back in school at HVCC and still working at CVS. Little Ayla is just growing and having fun.

I had dinner last night with Flo Deery, Kathy Heere and Liz Brown (the the PO) at the Normanside Country Club. It was nice to see Flo again and she's doing well.
I have to put my snacks and cake together for Cathy's but I will be in touch again soon.I often think about Dad and you discussing the politics of the world. You'd sure have a lot to talk about now. The world is cray. HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY to you and all our friends and relatives with you.
Give Mom, Dad & Flo Barbic a big hug. I love and miss you. Joan

July 8, 2012

Dear Cliff,

Another year has rolled by and we hope where ever you are that the music of "Happy Birthday" resounds in your ears. We are certainly singing to you today! Received a birthday greeting from Jimmy today and he talked about the memories of public school 2 and Hackett Junior High. He also mentioned remembering when I received the trappers mitt for my birthday and how much I loved that gift. Great memories of all of us!

Take care and Happy Birthday,
Dick and Ginger

April 8, 2012

Hi Cliff,
It was a busy 2011 and it looks like 2012 is headed the same way. Craig & Trisha are now divorced and Craig & Cheryl have bought a house together in Colonie. We have two more grandsons who are also into sports. Craig was sworn in a Sheriff in December. You would be proud of him. He's making lots of changes for the better of the County. We made it through the mild Winter and so far Spring is looking good. Today is EASTER and just wanted to wish you and everyone else with you a Happy Easter and let you know how much we miss you. Also, Chris is now married to Kimberley and they have a little baby Ayla Madison. She was born on Jan. 17, 2012. I'm going to NYC on Thurs. to meet them and watch Ayla while they celebrate their 1st Anniversary. I sure wish that you were here to go with me. Also, Bill Heere passed away a couple of months ago. I see and talk to Kathy quite often. I'm headed to Cathy's for dinner but wanted to let you know how much we love and miss you.

November 14, 2011

Brother Cliff,
Veteran's Day has come and gone again. We attended the Remembrance Day Services in London and you were in our minds. We hope that wherever you are that you are running into your old army buddies. God bless,

October 2, 2011

Forgot to update you on Craig. The campaign is going great. Fortunately he's running unopposed as everyone backed out. However, there's been ongoing fund raisers for him. I'm working one at the Colonie Golf Course tomorrow and then there's a big cotail party benefit at a home in Colonie after. Believe it or not, CJ is bartending and Kyle is waiting tables. It's a busy week as has the whole year been. Wednesday Mary, Fran & the sister-in-laws are going to Joe & Jackies in Bradenton, FL. We are hoping for a good week. It's gotten quite cool here and the rain is never ending. Today we are all getting together at Craig & Cheryl's to celebrate all the birthdays starting August.
I have to quick make a dish for today's gathering so I will be in touch when I return from FL.
FYI - Beth and Derek are off to Paris for their honeymoon. Quite a couple!!
Love, Joan

September 28, 2011

Hi Cliff,
Just letting you know that Beth & Derek were married on 9/10/ll. What a beautiful wedding it was. I am so happy to have been able to be a part of the plannning and preparations. Everyone looked just great and both the wedding and reception turned out as planned. You would be so proud of both of them. All the relatives were there and the grand kids were all dressed up and looked like "dapper" young men. All had a great time. The honeymooners went on a quick trip to Costa Rico and had a great time. Now it's back to reality for everyone. Other than that, things are the same. Summer went fast and fall is . We had so much rain and storms this season that it just doesn't seem like we had much summer. Maybe we won't get as much snow. Well, for now I'll say Good Bye and will be in touch again soon. Love, Joan

Ginger and Richard Apple

September 3, 2011

Dear Cliff,
It's September again and we played your old signature song when you had "The Cavaliers" trio - The September Song. Naturally, good ole Frank was singing it. Great memories of the 40's and early 50's. We see that Beth sent you a wonderful message. She is a great person and we all wish her the best on her upcoming wedding day. Until we see you again, Dick and Ginger

September 1, 2011

Hi Pop,

I'm writing this today because I know as the next few days go by, I'm not sure I will be able to. Tomorrow is my 29th birthday, my last birthday as a single lady! Next Saturday, I'm going to marry Derek, 9/10/11. I can't believe that I'm getting married. I just wanted to let you know that if there was one person in this entire world that I wish could be there by my side with the rest of us, it would be you. I really wish you could have met Derek, I think you would really like him and be proud of the person I've chosen to spend the rest of my life with. Everyone loves him, except for the fact that he's a Red Sox fan! Mom and Nan are the best and have done everything to make this day the best day of my life. Dad, of course, just makes it all possible and lets us do what we want - he's the best. I just want you to know that when I walk down the aisle, I'm wearing the engagement ring you gave Nan - and I'll be thinking of you. I love you and miss you so much - I think we'll all make you proud that day - and party Apple-style. I'll miss you that day....but I know you will be with me. I love you Pop.

June 19, 2011

Hi Cliff,
Just wanted to wish you and all the men a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY. I was thinking of you this morning when the news was on. There is a Father's Day Concert in the Corning Preserve tonight with the Dixiland Jazz Band and I knew that if you were here, that's where we'd be. BethAnne had her Albany shower yesterday. She got lots of nice gifts and everyone had a great time. It's hard to believe that our first born grandchild is getting married.
I'm headed out to James baseball game but just wanted to let you that I was thnking about you on this day.
Love, Joan

April 10, 2011

Dear Cliff,
Six years ago today you left us for I hope a more peaceful place. We always think about you. Different occasions bring up different memories. You will be happy to know that Chris became engaged recently. I am happy for them. Her name is Kimberly and also lives in Greenville, SC.
Lot's going on this Spring/Summer. James made the fresshman baseball team, Brunswick's home team and Devil Cats Babe Ruth travel team. Carmeron is playing lacross this year. The other grandchildren are all doing well.
Beth & Derek are in the planning stage of their wedding which is exciting and busy.
The long dreary winter finally gave into Spring. Now it's time for outside cleanup. This Winter was one that we don't want to see again.
Well, for now I'm going to say "Goodbye" and will be in touch again soon. You will never be forgotten.
Say "Hi" to everyone.
Love, Joan

March 17, 2011

Hi Cliff,
I woke up this morning thinking about you. I know that this is one day of the year that meant so much to you. Last year this time I was in Greenville with Chris, Mary & Paul and we had a Guiness toast to you that day. So often we do things that remind us of you. This is a busy year again. Our niece Ashley is getting married on 3/26 and then of course, we have the wedding of your little princess Beth. All the grandchildren are doing well. James and Cameron are still playing sports and the older ones are still figuring out where they are and where they are going. Our kids are all doing well. Dick & Ginger keep in touch quite often. Wish they were able to be closser.
We have had such a bad winter this year. It's now starting to warm up. One bit of encouragment is that the tips of the spring plants have pushed throug the ground.
I'm trying to keep busy. Still going to the gym and tonight I'm starting Zumba classes with Cathy. Wish dad, mom and everyone a "Happy St. Patricks Day". Til we meet again, I love you. Joan

March 16, 2011

Dear Cliff,
It's been awhile since we did some talking. Tomorrow will be 61 years since we joined the military service. I still remember arriving at Fort Dix and very early in the morning we started marching immediately in the rain. We sure did have a good time in basic training together. I guess you are getting all the family news; everyone in the extended family will always remember you. Hang in there until I see you again.

October 10, 2010

Dear Cliff,
To start - our little grandaughter, Bethanne, is now engaged to Derek Hernig from MA. Yesterday we went bridalgown shopping - Cathy, Beth, me and the girls. She found her wedding dress and will be a beautiful bride as you and I both know. I just wish that you could be here for her big day, 9/10/11 at the Albany Country Club.
A lot is happening in the family presently. I will update you later.
I talk with Dick and Ginger frequently. Hope to see them soon.
It's October, a nice day and I'm headed out to do some Halloween decorating. Nothing like when you were here. I will keep you updated. as the events happen. We love you and miss you. Joan

July 7, 2010

Hi cliff,
It's a day early but wanted to make sure I got this done on time. Just wanted to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Cathy, Bob and I went to the Plaza for the 4th. of July fireworks. It's the 1st that I've been there since you left. I sat there just thinking about all the years that we went early afternoon, ate and listened to the music until the fireworks. Things have changed a lot. I always think of you on the holidays and special occasions. My life has greatly changed. I just wish that you could see these grandchildren and how they have grown. Mary, Bonnie and I spend 9 days at Chris' condo in Myrtle Beach last month. In September, Mary, Paul and I are going do to Greenville. Chris is having surgery and we are going to help him for a few days. Well, say hello to everyone with you. I will be in touch soon. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Love, Joan

July 4, 2010

Dear Cliff,
Well, here we are again, another 4th of July and your birthday coming up in a few days. No matter how many years have passed since we were kids together, I still remember the fun we had always on these special days. Do you remember when Chet challenged us to a foot race on the 4th of July? Off the 3 of us went, down the block on Hudson Avenue, and at the finish line Chet was not with us. We turned around and low and behold, he tripped off the curb and had fallen. We took him into our mother, Catherine, and was she upset as she had to patch him up. Now that the years have passed, I realize that a challenge like that was a little ridiculous when racing with sons a fraction of his age. We were fast as lightning in those days. Ginger and I miss you and wish you were still here with us.
God bless,
Richard and Ginger

June 20, 2010

Hi Pop,
Just wanted to say Happy Father's Day. We all miss you and still think of you all the time.
Love,
Beth

April 10, 2010

Hi Cliff,
Five years ago today the boys spent the night with you at St. Peter's Hospital. We all had hope that you would be coming hone soon. Little did we know that you would leave us so soon. I'm sure that you are in a more peaceful place now. I just want you to know how much we miss you. The grandchildren are all growing up fast. I still keep in touch with Richard and Ginger as you knew that I would. I wish that we could see them more often.
Life sure has changed in more ways than you'll ever know since you've been gone as has the whole world. Take care and remember that we all love and miss you.
Love, Joan

April 5, 2010

Dear Cliff,
Just wanted to wish you a "Happy 52nd. Anniversary. It was five years ago today when I brought you an anniversary card to the ICU in St. Peter's Hospital. You were sitting up in a recliner type bed and looking the best that you had since you were admitted. We discussed going to dinner as soon as you were out of the hospitsl. Little did we know that day that it wouldn't happen. I guess God had other plans and he knows best. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.

Hi Cliff:
Just arrived home after dinner with my brothers, sister & paul. Craig also stopped by for a few minutes after celebrating with the Joe Murray clan. I haven't been to a St. Patricks Day parade since we last went. The last two years I celebrated in Greenville with Chris. I remember the good times that we had each year on this day. You had two celebrations. Say "hello" to everyone. I was thinking the other day and wondering if you have met up with my mother. I sure wish that she could have seen our children and grandchildren now. Things sure change fast. Well, Cliff take care until we meet again.

Hi Cliff,
Christmas and New Year have passed and 2010 has arrived with spring approaching. This brings back the memories of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day that marks the 60 year anniversary of our joining the Armed Forces of our country. I reflect on these memories every year and proudly recall how we honorably served.
Take care and rest peacefully knowing that we still remember you!

Hi Cliff,
I just had to send you a quick message to let you know how well remembered you are among the guys and auxiliary in the firehouse. We have had so much snow iin the past couple of weeks so we've been out on coffee duty several times. Even Bill Borger's daughter Allysa (14 yrs old) remembers you coloring with her in the firehouse. They all remember how you fought for what they wanted and bring up your name frequently. You certainly are miss by many and most of all me. Love, Joan

Hi Cliff,

It's September and one of your favorite months. We have once again played the "September Song" in your memory. Tomorrow is Irene's birthday and we have not informed you that she passed away recently. Maybe she is with Susan again. Joan has been busy with baseball season and it is over now for one more year. All of the family are celebrating birthdays, graduations, promotions, and generally doing fine. Enjoy your peace and God bless,

Ginger and Richard Apple

July 19, 2009

Hey Cliff,
How are you doing? Happy Belated Birthday. We celebrated all our birthdays in Port Hardy, Canada. We were away on a 3 week holiday in northern British Columbia so we missed writing to you on your special day, but don't worry as we toasted a few to you and ourselves. Your family is doing fine. Joan has them all under her watch. Take care and enjoy yourself where ever you are.

July 8, 2009

Hi Cliff,
Just wanted to wish you a "Happy Birthday". It's been a very busy month of June. CJ graduated high school and Craig was promoted to Undersheriff. It looks like we won't have a break until mid August. Lot's of baseball. Colonie won their first City/County Championship since Craig and Greg had the team. This is their last year so it's a nice way to end it. Now James and Cameron are starting All Stars. They've become really good players.
Summer is going fast but it's not the same as when you were here. Weekends get pretty boring.
The Yankees have been doing well so far and are ahead in the sixth inning tonight. "How sweet it is"
Take care. I think about you every day.
Love, Joan

July 8, 2009

Happy Birthday, Dad. I hope you're having a good time with all of your buddies. I know Don Smith recently came to join you. It has been a very busy 3 months with baseball. James has had a great year for his last year of little league. He has also been playing on a travel team called the Devil Cats. He has been doing great there, also. Allthough the team itself hasn't done all that well. We just went to a tournament in Lyme, CT. called War at the Shore and got "skunked". The kids had a great time though and it was nice to get away for a few days. We're in the final stretch now with all stars and then we can relax a bit in August.
Well, enjoy your birthday and I'll write to you soon. We all miss you, Dad.

This weekend was a busy one for the Apple family. Friday AM, June 26, 2009 Craig was promoted to undersheriff. He was sworn in by Sheriff Campbell followed by a get together with those friends and dignitaries who attended. You would be proud of him.
Friday evening, CJ graduated from Colonie High School and we went to dinner following that celebration.
Today, June 27th. was CJ's graduation party with many attending. You would also be proud of him. He has grown up to be a great young man.
These were the events for this weekend.

Happy Fathers Day, Dad. These days just don't seem to be the same anymore since you've been gone. Thanks for all you have done as our Dad. The values that you have instilled in us have and will always help us be better Dads and parents. You're the Best.

Love,

Hi Cliff,
Today we're celebrating Memorial Day 2009. I wish you were here to go to the parade. Holidays are so different now. You get accustomed to celebrating a certain way and everything changes. I'm going to Kim and Anthony's for a few hours for a cookout.
I received a voicemail from Kathy Apple (Scott's wife) to let me know that Irene passed away on Friday. She had been suffering with cancer for a while. Everything is being held in VT.
I have my work cut out for a few weeks getting a scrapbook together for CJ's graduation. All our grandkids are growing up so fast but all doing well as we always hoped for.
I'll be in touch again soon.

Hi Cliff,
Today is April 11 and yesterday marked 4 years since you've been gone. Butch, James, Luvy and I drove to the cemetary to let you know that we were thinking about you. We also visited Bushie. Not one day goes by or one celebration that I don't think of you and all we could be doing today now that I'm not working. Life sure has changed.
Also, tomorrow is Easter. I just want to wish you a HAPPY EASTER and also to Mom, Dad and everyone else. I hope that you all have finally met again.
HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL.
Love, Joan

April 10, 2009

Dad,
Well it has been four years today that you have been gone. I took today off from work, as I have every year in your honor. Mom, James, Lovey and I went up to the cemetary. It's so peaceful up there. I just want you to know that we all still miss you, Dad, and think of you all of the time. Happy Easter.

Love,

Dear Cliff,
Yesterday 4/5 would have been our 51st. Anniversary. It was difficult for me to write then. Who would have thought the time would go by so fast. I wanted to celebrate that 50 years together. We had a lot to celebrate. The kids and grandchildren are all doing fine. The little ones have grown so much since you left.
I just wanted to say HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. I miss you.
As the saying goes "Until we meet again" bye for now.

Top of the morning, Cliff!
It's Saint Patrick's Day and 59 years ago we joined the U.S. Army. Remember you and I plus Joe took the train on the following Monday from Albany to Fort Dix? Only one person was there to see us off - and that was the famous Kentuckian Joe Northcutt. I recall all the events we did together during basic training as "recruits". Butch and Chris both emailed us to say that they remember you telling them every year about our enlisting on this day. You see we all have fine memories of you to share.
Rest in peace, Dick and Ginger

Hi Cliff,
Well, good news and bad news. The New York Yankees have moved into their new stadium. The bad news is that the closed their old home - the house that Ruth built! We are talking about all the old memories of when we were kids and we adored that old stadium. By the way, a term came up the other day on television - it was the "corn cob boys". Remember Jimmy O'Connor gave that name to the team on Madison Avenue that we used to play against in Washington Park? Those were the days! I can still picture Harry Rubman playing first base. Take care and rest in peace,

Joan

Dear Cliff,
Today is July 8th. Here's wishing you a Happy Birthday. A lot has been going on around here. We're back in the All Star season with James and Cameron and both are doing well so far. Everyone else is doing fine. Aug. 17 thru 24th. the family is all going to Kiawah. Finally we can all go at the same time. This Sat. is the annual Family Reunion. Uncle Jeff will not be there. He's been in the hospital for a month and now in a rehab. facility. Every year we miss someone. We all went to Tom's for a 4th. of July/birthday party for Tom. It was like another family reunion but we had a great time. I wish you were here to help me enjoy these occasions. I know that God has a plan for each of us so I have to accept it.
I have Harley until we go to Kiawah and then I'll return him to Chris.
Let everyone with you know that I'm always thinking of them also.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I love you and miss you,

Richard and Ginger Apple

July 4, 2008

Dear Cliff,
This note contains two messages for you. First of all Happy 4th of July - we are so proud that your remains are in hallowed grounds along with other men and women who served in the armed forces of our country so we can be free. Secondly we are going on a trip so before leaving we would like to wish you an early Happy Birthday greeting.
God Bless and Rest in Peace.

Hi Pop,

Just wanted to say Happy Father's Day. I'm sitting here at work, finally a pharmacist! I can finally afford to buy my own goldfish for snacks! A lot has changed since you passed away. I'm still in Boston and I really like it here, but I really miss everyone every day. Not very many days go by that I don't think about you and all of our great times together. Love and miss you,

Happy Father's Day, Dad.
I sat here this morning thinking about memories of the past from when we were kids. I thought about the day trips to the ocean, the vacations, the family picnics, the family meetings, and the days we would just pile in the car and drive anywhere for the day. This is a day to say Thanks for the memories, Dad. I will treasure those forever. I'm finding out more and more everyday just how tough it is to be a good dad. It can be very challenging at times. I only hope I can do as good of a job as you did. Thanks for all you did, Dad. I really hope that you are in that better place because you deserve it. You're the best.

Love,

Butch

June 15, 2008

Today if Father's Day. Our kids have great memories of you as a Dad. They often talk about the times that you took them swimming down in the Catskills and the crazy hide and seek game with Dick on the back road. Not to mention all the Little League games, Boy Scout trips and vacations. Often the grandchildren will say "remember when PoP........". You have left and empty spot in our lives but we know that when you look around the world today that you're in a much better place.
We all wish you a Happy Father's Day to you, Dad and every Dad that has gone with you.
Not to end on a bad note, but Walter passed away a couple of weeks ago. On a good note, Dick and Ginger were here and Cathy had everyone at her house Sunday evening including Scott, Kathy and Maureen. I guess it's true that out of every bad comes a good. It's been a long time since that has happened.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
We all love you and miss you.

P.S. Memorial Day
We just got back from watching a live concert with Liza Minnelli. What a performance - she was fantastic and her signature song was your song, Cliff - New York, New York. She said that she would never forget this night as the audience was fantastic - what a response the audience gave to her! So once again, Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day, Cliff!
Do you recall that on this day in 1950 that we marched in the Memorial Day parade in Newark, New Jersey? They drove us there in large Army trucks. Little Dick at 16 years of age and big brother at 18. I still recall many of our buddies from those days. By the way I believe Joe passed away a few years ago in Florida - at least that is what the Times Union said. If you see him along the road where you are, say hello.
All our love to you on this special day,

Richard and Ginger Apple

April 13, 2008

Hi Cliff,
This week-end - especially today, Sunday, makes it exact to the day that you left us. Again, it was a shock seeing that I had just visited you the previous week and you were looking good and in good spirits, but "che sara sara" . Life really pulls a lot of surprises on us, so where ever you are, I hope you meet Mrs. Callabash along with Jimmy Durante.

Do you remember the Anspach stables at the six mile waterworks where we used to rent the saddle horses? All the members of the Cavaliers plus me, your little brother, used to go there and ride and listen to the old man say "Don't cowboy my horses." Remember Joe's poor horse used to turn around and go back to the stable? As you know now there is no more forest area at the six mile waterworks. Progress?

We just saw the play "Dirty Dancing" and the story actually took place in the Catskill Mountains at a resort. I started laughing and thinking about the night that the great Cavaliers plus one stood on the tables and drank pitchers of beer at the Shepherd Farms Resort in the Catskills. Great memories of my big brother and me.

God Bless

Joan

Hi Cliff,
It was three years ago today that you left us at Memorial Hospital. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Today, Butch, Luvie and I went to the Cemetery. We sat on the wall in the sun thinking about the good days gone bye. This world has had a lot of changes in three years and not all good. I bet that you and Dad have had some great conversations since Dad predicted some of this.
My one goal in life was to make our 50th. Wedding Anniversary but that didn't happen. It would have been the 5th of this month. Well, for some reason, it wasn't in God's plans. Rest in peace until we meet again.
I love and miss you.

March 26, 2008

Hi Cliff,
This year Mary, Paul and I went down to see Chris on March 12 and came home on the 24th. It's a long drive, as you know, but we went straight through. It was good to be in warm weather with the flowers blooming rather than the cold snow and rain. We went to city of Greenville on St. Pat's day and heard some music and drank some beer. Chris and I thought of you while we were listing to the band on the roadside. We remembered you telling us every year about you and Dick going in the service.
On Easter, Chris took us to a buffet at the Embassy Suites. We came home and drank some wine out on the deck. Soon we'll be cleaning up outside after a long messy winter.
The grandchildren are all dong well.
CJ just got his license, Pat's on Spring Break, Beth finishes her internship at the hospital in May and plans on accepting a position there. I really miss her. All the others are getting ready for baseball season.
I will keep you updated.
Until we meet again, I love you and miss you.

Hi Cliff,
It's Easter week-end and they are predicting snow in London. Memories of Easter Sunday include all dressed up in new clothes, a walk up Hudson Avenue to Washington Park - all 6 of us - Esther, Chet, Mary, Jimmy, and you and I, and finally standing in front of the tulips with Chet taking the pictures with the old green box camera. I hope these words joggle your memory. Happy Easter and God be with you.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! 58 years ago this day, Monday, we shipped out from Albany railroad depot to Fort Dix. along with Joe Camuglia. Dear Brother,
Today is Armistice Day, Veterans Day, and as they call it here in England, Remembrance Day. We attended the ceremony in downtown London and there was a two minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in remembrance of the fallen veterans. The Royal family placed wreaths of poppies at the veterans memorial. The music and the parade of veterans were spectacular. Cliff, there is more patriotism here compared to our country. They do not forget their countrymen and women who have served in their armed forces. I remember this was always a special day in our lives and the good times we had together when we met overseas while we were serving our country. I hope you are resting in peace. You are always on my mind.

Dear Cliff,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We got to see Dick & Ginger for a couple of days. Cathy had us for dinner and we did go to the cemetery to visit you, Bud and Bushie. We gave Bushie the salutation. Isn't it funny that he is directly across from you. It's always hard to get everyone together but something good came out of this visit. We had lunch with Scott & Kathy. We then went to Craig's for a short while. You wouldn't know Scott. He's not the "little boy" that we remember. He's quite tall and looks a lot like Dick. We're going to try to keep in touch. Right now everyone is stretched to the limit - weddings, showers and Pat's graduation party is coming up.
The little guys started All Stars. James lost his first and Cam one his first two. We won't know the final outcome until next Tuesday when the championship game is played. The weather is really hot and the plants and flowers are blooming. You'd love the pond right now. We all miss you and hope you're gaving a birthday celebration with all your buddies. Again, Happy Birthday and I love you.

Joan

June 17, 2007

Dear Cliff,
Today is Father's Day - a day that you always well deserved. I'm sure that all you guys are having your own celebration. Yesterday, was the 50th. Anniversary of Company #3. There was a celebration at the firehouse and a little service for the living charter members. It's hard to believe the number of members no longer there. Dan Klob did a nice video on the past years. You, Bushie, Kevin Seaburg, Butch & Chris were among those in it. Those were the days. What great memories. It's all changed now but I'm sure that they'll have their own memories. Dick, Ginger & I keep in touch almost weekly either by phone or email. Haven't seen them in a while because even when they do get to the states, they have so much catch up to do. Hopefully we'll see them soon.
Well, the Yankees are on and winning so I'm going to finish watching the game.
We all miss you and love you. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY.
Love,

Beth

Hi Pop, I just wanted to say Happy Father's Day. I still think of you every day. Things have changed in my life now, I'm finally done with school and I've moved to Boston. But don't worry, I still hate the Red Sox! I love Boston but I do miss everyone a lot. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I still think of you all the time, and we all miss you. I love you, happy fathers day.

April 11, 2007

Hi Dad. James, Lovey, and I had a "Clifford Day" in your honor yesterday. I took the day off and we went to Gus's and got lunch and brought it to the river to eat. Then we went up to Saratoga to say hello to you. We went across the way to say hello to Bushie, also. I'm sure you guys are still giving each other your daily greeting. We didn't make it to Hannaford, but we did go to Price Chopper. We'll hit Hannaford next time. Didn't get a chance to write but I saw my first Robin a few weeks ago. Its been kind of cold for them. We still think about you and miss you everyday. Though we all know that we have to carry on, sometimes its hard not having you around. Some days are alot tougher than others. I'm sure you miss us, too, but I know you're keeping an eye on us. Hope all is well with you.

It's two years ago this day that you left us. I guess that I never realized that you were so sick. I know that you're in a better place now but not a day goes by that I don't think of you. We could be enjoying so much now that I'm retired. I'm trying to continue on because I know that's what you would have wanted but it's still very hard. The grandson's are all starting baseball as usual. Beth graduates this May and is moving to Boston. I'll sure miss her also. Pat is graduating and starting college. He's a young man now. I just wanted to let you know how much you're missed and loved by all.
All my love,

Hi Cliff,
This is your day. You weren't Irish but had plenty of reason to celebrate. Butch reminded me today how you called him every year to talk about this day. It's a quiet St. Pat's day this year. Not even corned beef/cabbage and you know that's a first. We had a big snow storm and everything was cancelled. Everyone is doing fine and we all miss you. I hope you're celebrating with your friends and family.
Love ya,

Dear Cliff,
Happy New Year!!! Another Christmas has come and gone and another year is here. We talked to all the family at Cathy and Bob's Christmas dinner on the speaker phone while we were in Florida on holiday. We flew into Baltimore and you would not believe it but we finally took a trip on the Amtrak from Baltimore to Orlando and return. This week-end we celebrated little Christmas and remembered that this was one of your special times of the year. You never forgot little Christmas from the time you were in Germany.
Take care and rest in peace.

Dear Cliff,
Another long year has gone by. It's still difficult to deal with the holidays and events without you. It gets so lonesome here. Dick and Ginger are on their way back to England after a short stay in FL. We didn't see them this Xmas. The kids are all going back to school tomorrow. It's going to be a busy first 6 months of the year. Matt Vogelein's fiance's shower in Feb., wedding in Apr., Beth's graduation from Albany Pharmacy in May and Pat's graduation in June. He is going to attend and play football for SUNY Albany. Beth will be moving away, probably to Boston, and I'm sure going to miss her. I just want to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Dear Cliff,
Well, another one of your buddies has left us and joining you. Harold Bushie passed away on Saturday, 11/16. He will also be joining you and Bud in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Sylvia and I know that you'll be greeting him with the salutation.
Like every other year, everyone is holiday stressed. Dick & Ginger should be in FL by now. I haven't done much for the holidays except shop, decorate and bake cookies. I miss the rides to VT and the trips to the plaza to hear the music etc. this time of the year. I'll be writing you again at Xmas.

Hi Cliff,
Thanksgiving has come and gone again. It was quite hectic this year. Marie Filkins passed so Cathy, Bob & the kids all went to FL. She will be missed by many. Thanksgiving was at Craig's and we all had a nice gime. I thought about you Thanksgiving AM and missed you at Dinner. Chris was up for Thanksgiving and spent the week. Actually, all of us got together yesterday and we cleaned out the barn and he is going back with Harley tomorrow. It was nice so see him again. Everyone is doing fine and we all miss you very much. Life will never be the same for me. I must be like a reunion. So many have joined you. I love you and hope you enjoy your holidays.

Butch

November 23, 2006

Dad,
Just a quick note to say Happy Thanksgiving and to let you know that we're all thinking about you. In fact, I still think about you and miss you every day. I don't think that will ever go away. I guess you have some new company joining you. Say hello to Marie for us. She will be missed also.
Love you Dad,

Hello Brother,
Well Halloween and All Souls Day have passed. More memories came to mind about these days in our lives. We said a few prayers hoping that you are carrying on in a peaceful environment. Thinking of you always,

October 23, 2006

Dear Cliff,
Exactly one year ago this Monday in October we put your ashes to rest in the hallowed grounds at Saratoga Springs Military cemetary. It was a bright sunny day and you would have liked the service. We all said a few words of good-bye. Rest in peace brother.

Joan

July 8, 2006

Dear Cliff,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

This is your time of the year - baseball season. Kyle pitched the championship games for city and county Thurs. He had 10 K's, allowed only 3 hits, nabbed a home run for himself and because of two major errors they lost the game by 1 run. Little Cameron made a great Sheffield catch. CJ is playing Babe Ruth this year. Today Colonie started All Stars in Ravena and won. James starts on Monday.

The world is getting crazy so I know that you have to be in a more peaceful environment. I will be having orthoscopic surgery on my knee on 7/11. I wish that you were here to be with me. You always gave me that bit of encouragement. I think of you and pray for you every day. God Bless you and watch over you.

Love,

Ginger and Richard Apple

June 25, 2006

Dear Cliff,

We will be in the good ole' USA for about 10 days and did not want to miss the opportunity to wish you a Happy Birthday, big brother! Two years older plus one day - July 8th and 9th. We always celebrated both days when we were growing up. We sure miss you and love you!

Joan

June 18, 2006

Dear Cliff, Today is Father's Day and another reminder of how much you're missed. The kids will always remember what a good father you were to them and the fun times that they had. Elaine & I are always reminiscing about you and Joe now that baseball season is again here. All the kids are doing great. We should have our own "Apple" team. Life is so different and doesn't seem to get any better. We always did something on weekends and holidays. Now they're so empty. I keep in touch with Dick and Ginger. I wish that they lived closer to us. Beth has started rotations and is now on her second one. She did 6 wks. at CVS and now 10 wks. at Albany Medical Center. Cathy & Bob left for a few days in Florida with Chuck and Marie. Marie hasn't been feeling well so they wanted to spend some time visiting with them. I know that you must be happier now after all the "hell" you suffered but rest assured that you are missed so much. For now, until next time, I love you and miss you.

Joan

April 11, 2006

Dear Cliff,

Yesterday was one year since we were last with you in St. Peter's Hospital. It's been a tough year and doesn't seem to get any better. We really never got to say good bye but somehow I feel that's the way you wanted it. I want you to know that we were there with you.

Every weekend I think of the things we'd be doing or the places we'd be going. I can say that we have a lot of memories to look back on. The boys are all starting baseball again and Beth is in her final year of College. You'd be so proud of her accomplishments. Today was the Yankee's opening day and of course Christopher was there and they won. This Sunday is Easter. I was driving down the highway today and got thinking about the Holy Saturday's that we packed up a picnic and fresh kielbasa and cooked out somewhere outside of Troy. The kids were small and some years it was pretty cold but we all had fun. Spring is finally here and the fish have tripled in size. You sure enjoyed that pond.

Chris, Beth & I were at the cemetery for a couple of hours yesterday and Butch was there right after us. It is a beautiful place and you knew that when you choose it. I'm sure that you're in a beautiful and definitely more peaceful environment.

Until we meet again, I love you and miss you.

Butch

April 10, 2006

Hi Dad. It's hard to believe that it has been a year since you have passed on. One year ago last night, Chris and I spent the night with you in your room. Little did we know at the time that you had already begun your journey to a new place. Well, spring is here and so are the Robins. I remember you calling to let me know whenever you saw your first Robin of the year. It's amazing how the smallest things in life seem to gain so much more significance later on. Anyways, I saw my first Robin back in February. I think the weather had them a little confused this year!

Dad, this is a sad day for all of us so please help us all get through it okay. I'm sure you will. Until next time, remember that you continue to live in all of our hearts and minds. We Love you.

Hi Cliff,

Last week-end marked the last time I saw you alive. You were sitting up in bed in the ICU looking great. When we were saying good-bye you gave me two thumbs up and I can picture that moment very clearly in my mind even now. Then the following Sunday I called your room in the hospital section and there was no answer. I knew then that something was wrong. I called your house and all the family was there and they informed me that we had lost you that morning. I cannot believe a year has past since that day!!! This week an old movie came on the television and it brought back many memories to me. All four of us - Mary, Jim, you and I went to see this film together. It was one of our favorites for a long time while we were growing up. "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" from 1944. The forties were important years in our lives and I recall our childhood so vividly. Take care, brother. God Bless You.

Dear Cliff,

Just a few words to wish you a "Happy 48th Anniversary". One year ago today, I was with you in St. Peter's ICU. I stopped by to wish you a Happy Anniversary and bring your card. You were lookiing so great and I really thought at that time that you'd be coming home soon. I couldn't stay because I had just been to the doctors and had pneumonia. You called me on the 6th. and on the 8th. you moved to the 4th fl. It was all downhill from there. Actually, it was the last day that I saw you smile. I'm sure that you are now happy and that's what matters.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

I love you,

Joan

Hi Cliff, "HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY" It's the day after St. Patrick's Day. I still have a difficult time writing in this book. I thought of you last Sat. when Albany had the St. Patrick's Day parade. It was a beautiful day and I knew that we would have been there. Elaine and I are invited to Craig's for corned beef & cabbage today (Craig is the chef). This was one of your days of celebration and well deserved. I know that Dick celebrated with you in mind also. Dick reminded me today that it was 55 yrs. ago that you both went into the service. Harley's been keeping me company for the past week while Chris is in the process of setting up another warehouse.

The boys are all getting prepared for the baseball season and Beth is getting ready for her year of rotations in preparation for graduation 2007 (her and Pat will be graduating a month apart).

In the beginning of the month, we went to a birthday party for Aunt Dorothy. We're not sure if she's 89 or 90 but looking great. She and Uncle Jeff are the only ones left in Dad's family and they are in-laws. Life sure goes fast.

We are always thinking of you because everything that we do triggers another memory.

Love as always,

Ginger and Richard Apple

Hello Brother Cliff,

Well, Butch, you are going to hear the story again!!!! The Cavaliers and I joined the Army 56 years ago today!!! Your father, Joe Camuglia, Jack Frey, and I proceeded to our physical examinations at the post office in Albany, New York. We all passed the exams except for Jack, the drummer. So there were only three of us that made the Army roster. Jack apparently joined the Navy a little later. The following Monday at the Albany railroad depot Cliff, Joe, and I shipped out to Fort Dix. Would you believe this? The only person that came to say good-bye was Joe Northcutt, an old friend of our father. What do you think Cliff? Do you remember this? We spent four months in basic training and you went your way and I was assigned to another post. You were a great help and inspiration to me during this time. Later we did meet again in Frankfurt and Munich. I would like to think that this was the brothers' reunion. You spent the rest of your time in the Army Security Agency - Intelligence Corps and I in the Constabulary. Great times and we both made it back alive!!! Then the Cavaliers regrouped when Jack was discharged and the band used to practice at Harts Bar on 2nd Avenue. Sometimes I think and reflect that maybe you joined the Army because you wanted to take care of me and other times I think that maybe my wanting to join kind of influenced you. Well, "Que sera, sera" so thanks for the good times and memories, Dick and Ginger

Hi Dad. Happy St. Patrick's Day! I know what this day always meant to you. I can remember getting that phone call from you every year and listening to the story about joining the Army. It was the same story every year but I never really got tired of hearing it. I just want you to know that I'll miss that call today and really wish that I could hear you tell that story one more time. All of us continue to miss you. I hope all is well, wherever you are.

Hello Brother,

We cannot believe that this year has passed so quickly. Last March Richard piggy-backed on Ginger's recruiting trips to see you. This week-end to be exact we were together at the great Green Manor with Joanie, Butch, James and his dog and then we had to race you to St. Peters emergency room where Beth Anne and Cathy and Bob showed up. When the doctors checked you out they sent you back again to Green Manor in the middle of the night. Dick recalls because the next day it was Sunday and the Green Manor doctor never came in to see how you were doing. But Sunday was a good one for all of us as we were altogether in your room that afternoon and early evening. Dick left a couple of days later to return to Baltimore and meet Ginger to return to London. Dick was back again at the end of March because you ended up in St. Peters again but this time in the intensive care unit. We realize now how tough it must have been on you to be going back and forth like a yo-yo from one medical condition to another. We know that you tried so hard to get better so you could return home and we are so sorry that it never happened. Please remember that we have excellent memories of you. God Bless, Ginger and Dick
