What could I say about Dakota.. what cant I say. He could make you smile even when mad. He could make you laugh even when crying. He could make you enjoy anything you did, even when it was horrible. Have a list of things to do, he will see it and go do and complete some of what you need done. If not all of what you needed. He made a beautiful daughter with the love of his life and proud of them both.. they were his world. I could go forever about the memories and happiness he brought. I have so many memories 1 doesnt just stand out. He though of me a lot, he would bring little wakey gifts like a squirrels in a log or a huge light up tower from France he found.. the first time he came to see Leara before his first Surgery he brought her flowers. He had 1 single rose in his other hand, that was for me.. he was like that. He never asked Leara out bit they stuck together like glue.. I know I will miss him so very much. It hurts beyond words to know he won't be around and with his daughter. I do know he is watching them. I love and miss you Kota.

Condolences to Brian, Candice, Travis, Leara and Family.
O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of thy servant Dakota Ellis Shumpis and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of thy saints; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
SAFELY HOME
I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still,
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remains,
You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come !

I remember Dakota as an adorable and clever 6 or 7 year old when I worked for boces.
One particular memory that stands out to me was a gym class during which the students were seated on the floor and the gym teacher was outlining that day’s activity. Dakota got sidetracked, and when coach gently reminded him to stay focused, Dakota smiled his megawatt grin straight at her and said “I like your sweater.” She and all of the adults in the gymnasium couldn’t help but laugh. He charmed everyone he met. It appears his daughter carries that same trait as well.
He truly left his mark on everyone he met. I’ll be praying for your family for comfort and healing.
