Daniel Seifert

Seifert, Daniel SCARBOROUGH, Maine Daniel Seifert, 86, died peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Gosnell House Hospice of Southern Maine after a lengthy illness. Daniel was born in New York, N.Y., the son of Peter Seifert and Antonia Handt. He spent his childhood in Maple-wood/Watervliet, N.Y. where he graduated from high school. He briefly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, then pursued career interests in electrical engineering. He worked at General Electric Corporation, and subsequently became president of Control Methods Corporation in Red Hook, N.Y., where he resided most of his adult life. He was a member of the American Legion and Rotary. He married his loving wife, Catherine Woodman Seifert on July 9, 1955. She compassionately cared for him during their entire life together. Dan was predeceased by his brother, Walter Shulha. He is survived by his wife Catherine of Scarborough; daughter, Cathy Seifert Levine, her husband Richard Levine, their daughter, Caroline Levine of Short Hills, N.J.; daughter, Chris Shaffer, her husband, Lary Shaffer, and their two daughters, Alice Shaffer and Grace Shaffer of Scarborough; sister, Olga Zonitch of Guilderland, N.Y.; niece, Judy Simon and her husband Steve Simon of Schenectady, N.Y.; and cousin, Stefanie Stepaniuk of Kew Gardens, N.Y. and her family; as well as other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear and loyal friends, Ken and Marcy Appell of Red Hook, N.Y. and their family. Dan will always be remembered for his kind heart and expertise at backyard barbecuing, poker playing, and picking winners at horse races. He loved to entertain friends and family. Dan was a proud husband, father and grandfather. Funeral services will be held at St. Basil's Russian Orthodox Church, 6 Lansing Avenue, Watervliet, N.Y. at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009.
