ALBANY - Daniel E. Sommers, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, at The Community Hospice Inn, at St. Peter's Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Daniel was the son of the late Ellsworth and Mary E. (Mueller) Sommers. He was the devoted husband of over 37 years to the late Jean F. Sommers.
Dan worked for Albany International Corp. as Plant Manager and later, Director of Global Strategic PMC, for many years.
Dan was an avid real estate investor on Cape Cod for decades. His crowning achievement was building "Wendy Way," Dan and Jean's second home in the "fingers" of West Dennis. In his "retirement" from Albany International, he formed Sommerset Real Estate Investment Corp. He was extremely proud to have brought over 250 distressed homes back to life over his investment career.
Dan attended Clarkson University for his undergraduate degree and was a proud member of the Omicron Pi Omicron fraternity. He pursued his graduate studies at RPI.
Daniel is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" (Robert) Taylor; and Beth's mother, Mary A. Sommers. He is also survived by his beloved partner and high school sweetheart, Kathleen Logan. He was the proud grandfather of Javon, Andre, Preston and Elijah Taylor. He is survived by his sisters, Mary E. "Betty" (Robert) Romanski, Christina "Chris" (James) Breindel and Debra "Bean" Toomey. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends including, David Skinnon and Bill Zmijewski.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on June 2, 2025, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, N.Y. 12189. A service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m.
