David Deyoe Obituary

Deyoe, David G. KNOX David G. Deyoe, age 74, passed away suddenly on February 19, 2021, at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Catskill, the son of the late Bernard and Maude Deyoe. He graduated from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central High School, and after graduating enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served on an aircraft carrier as a helicopter mechanic. He joined the Albany Police Department in 1970 where he first worked in the traffic division as a motorcycle patrolman and then later as a detective working out of Division 1 until his retirement in 1993. Dave served his country and the Albany community. He was a hardworking and loyal man you could depend on. He was an even-tempered man who never had a bad word for anyone. He always said "You have to play the hand you are dealt," and was never one to complain. He had a strong but gentle presence, and was greatly valued by his many friends and family. He was a lifelong Harley Davidson enthusiast and outdoorsman. He enjoyed working on the many motorcycles, cars, and boats he owned over the years. Dave was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Patricia; son, Craig (Diane); stepson, Robert J. Weidman (Doreen); grandchildren, Erin and Shannon Deyoe, Corey, Pfc. Robert J. Jr. U.S.M.C., and Amanda Weidman. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family, with a memorial service to be announced at a later date with interment in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Albany PBA, P.O. Box 10084, Albany, NY, 12201. Dave and I served 1966-67 at Saufley Field (VT-1/ Line 1) Pensacola as "Plane Captains" on T-34,s. There were several of us from NY and the Capital District at the time. Dave was a motorcycle guy and rode a BSA all the time. He stood up for our daughter when she was baptized in the little base chapel. I have fond memories of Dave just writing this.

Dave and I served in VT-1 Squadron ,Saufley Field, Pensacola from 1966-1968. I remember him astride his BSA "Lightning" motorcycle. There were several Albany area boys in our squadron and we were all close. So sad to hear of his untimely passing.

I remember Dave as soft spoken but had a wonderful way with words. He was a good friend and will be missed. Sailor, rest your oar.
