David Simon Obituary
ALBANY - David Lee Simon, 51 of Albany, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to all, was called home suddenly early Tuesday morning, December 6, 2022.
David was born on March 5, 1971, in Joplin, Mo. to Betty Simon Boykin, and Navis Simon. David was a lifetime athlete and was a tri-athlete in high school. He was all conference in basketball, and All State in football and baseball. He was drafted out of high school by the Atlanta Braves, and that career brought him to Albany, where he played minor league baseball for the Albany Diamond Dogs.
After completing of his professional baseball career, he played semi-professional softball for many years. Although his years as an athlete came to a close he was not ready to come off the field just yet, he became an umpire where he rose quickly to an elite level, and umpired Division I, II, and III college level baseball. He found enjoyment in all things sports and was a lifetime fan of Alabama college football.
David had a love of people and would lend a helping hand, ear, or his time to anyone in need. He has worked in the City School District of Albany for the past 24 years, where he worked in several roles and school buildings. He would be willing to lend a hand smile or hug to anyone who needed it, from colleagues, students and parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Candy; daughters, Shelby (Preston), Mataya, and Zoey; his stepchildren, Kayleigh, Tylor, and Teagan; his grandchildren, Amaya, Adalyn, Aubrey Alana, and Mila; his brother, Michael (Rhonda); his sister, Kay; and host of nieces and nephews who are all a part of his legacy.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with David's family on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Funeral services will be on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the Macedonia Baptist Church, 26 Wilson Ave., Colonie. Services will be live-streamed and may be viewed at www.MacedoniaofAlbany.org

Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Always looked forward to seeing you guys at the field. I remember Nathan was in the emergency room couple years ago & we ran into Dave & as busy as he was he took the time to talk with my Son & give him great advice, I am forever grateful. My daughter Malaysia and my son Marcel along with myself are lost for words,both of my children were homered and truly happy to have both wonderful teachers Mr Simon in Abrookins and Mrs Simon in North Albany Middle school.Mr Simon is a true Angel to ACSD along with Mrs Simon,May the Almighty be with Mrs Simon Zoey and the rest of the family heart and prayers are with you forever.S.I.P Mr Simon u will be truly missed but never forgotten.

Candy, Kayleigh, Tyler, Teagan & Zoe there just doesn´t seem to be the right or even enough words to say how very sorry Jere and I are to hear abt David! My heart breaks for you. Candy, it is incredibly amazing to see the outpouring of love and kindness shared on social media abt your husband; what an incredible mark he has left on so many people and the community at large. Keep his memory close to your heart as you begin this new journey. May God wrap His loving arms around everyone and provide peace over the next few days.
