Donald Marotta Obituary

Marotta, Donald ALBANY Donald L. Marotta, 75, of Washington Ave., died April 28, 2016, after an extended illness at Albany Medical Center. Born and raised in Amsterdam, August 9, 1940, the son of the late Ralph Marotta and Rose Marotta Zullo and step-father, Robbie Zullo. Don was a 1958 graduate of Amsterdam High School and later continued his education at Fulton-Montgomery College, College of St. Rose, and Russell Sage. He was a geriatric therapist with the New York Department of Mental Hygiene's Capital District Psychiatric Center in Albany for many years until retirement. Don enjoyed camping and traveling to Cape Cod and Montreal through the years. He often dined out with family and friends, watching the food network for ideas. Voted Best Dancer in his class, he loved his time on the dance floor and was a much-wanted dance partner, especially to the jitterbug. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church of Albany and sang in the church choir in his earlier years. Don was fortunate to have the love and company of his sister's daughters and their families. His sister, Carmella Siciliano, and niece, Lori Siciliano, predeceased him. Survivors include nieces, Gina (Dan) Martin of Ballston Lake and Christy (Ron) Westfall of Colonie and grand offspring, Nick and Natalie Martin and Ron Westfall, III. Donald's nieces would like to thank Jim Miskell of Albany for unselfishly providing his constant help and support. Current services are being held at the convenience of the family, with a memorial celebration to be scheduled at a future date. Remembrances may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or online.

Time flies by so fast, days go by and I think about all those great fun times. The circle continues to grow up above with friends, I know you are dancing at a big T dance. One day we will meet again. Peace and prays.

Donald was always fun to be with. He always had a story for every occasion and always made me laugh. Although, I did not have the pleasure on knowing him for a very long time, I will always remember him fondly.

Days go by and you are always remembered for the many nights of going out to dinner, trips to Montreal and P-Town, and especially Mexico. You left us too early. You will never be forgotten.

It was a privilege and a pleasure to know Donald. Memories of reconnecting with him many years back at a reunion of "Bert DeRose's Theater Kids" in Amsterdam are absolutely wonderful ones. My condolences go out to his loving family and dear friends.

It's with a heavy heart that I say good bye to one of my dearest friends. Over that last 40 odd years we've had many a great time at P'Town, Montreal and in Albany. There was never a finer dining partner ever born. I'll cherish all the memories of our times together. Until we meet again, RIP Don.
