EAST GREENBUSH - Douglas Hamilton, 92, of East Greenbush, N.Y., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on December 8, 2025. He was born on October 17, 1933, in Newburgh, N.Y. to Albert and Wilhelmina (Ashley), where he was raised alongside his twin brother, Donald Hamilton, who predeceased him.
Douglas proudly served in the United States Air Force and graduated from Orange County Community College and New York University. He dedicated 35 years to his work as an Occupational Therapist and Program Analyst for New York State before retiring. Following retirement, he continued to work as an Occupational Therapist for Samaritan Hospital and the ARC until retiring in 1998.
In 1957, Doug married Carol "Jean" (Sanderson) Hamilton, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2016. Together they settled in East Greenbush, and raised their three sons.
Doug is survived by his sons Kevin (Phyllis), Jeffrey (Barbara), and Mark (Maggie); and by his beloved granddaughters, Katelyn Mall (Oneel), Sierra Ebert (Cody), Danielle Hamilton (Elijah), Victoria Hamilton, Sophia Hamilton; and his step-granddaughters, Amy Wynn (Dustin) and Stacy Graham. He is also remembered by great-grandchildren, Owen, Myla and Zoey Mall; and his step great-granddaughter, Allison Brown (Cade); step great-grandson, Dylan Wynn (Courtney); his step great-great-grandson, DJ; and extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
Doug had many passions. He was a proud Air Force veteran, a showman, and an enthusiastic member of the Air Force's Top Blues entertainment group. Known for his humor and quick wit, he loved telling jokes and bringing smiles to others. Doug was a Boy Scouts of America assistant scoutmaster and past board member of the Governor Clinton Boy Scout Council. He was also an avid camper, traveling to most U.S. states and many Canadian provinces over the years. Doug was a longtime and devoted congregant of the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany NY and a member of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 in Rensselaer. Doug also had many hobbies including leather working, chair caning and basket weaving, birding and of course joke telling. Doug appreciated a good cocktail and the good company that came with it. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Peregrine Senior Living in Guilderland, NY, for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Doug's time there. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Albany Episcopal Cathedral of All Saints on Douglas's behalf.
