Edward Gardner Obituary

Gardner, Edward Wallace NORTH GREENBUSH Edward Wallace Gardner, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Albany and raised in Catskill. He was the son of the late Dr. Harold Edward Gardner and Elizabeth Phinney Gardner. Ed graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School and the University of Maryland. He had the honor of serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was involved in many business endeavors such as the Republic Steel Corp. and later was the president of the Albany Business Archives. Ed was first introduced to Lake George as an infant and spent his early years on Cleverdale. Later he started the first water ski school on Lake George with his friends in the early 1950s. He has passed on his love of the lake to his children and grandchildren. Ed also enjoyed alpine skiing and met his beautiful wife, Lynn, on the ski slopes in Stowe, Vt. He and his family had the privilege of working at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid and witnessed the "Miracle on Ice." Ed loved all sports. He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the Wolfert's Roost Country Club. He also coached Latham Little League for many years; was involved in Soap Box Derby with his children resulting in two trips to Akron, Ohio; regularly attended R.P.I. hockey games; and was a board member of the C.B.A. Albany Patroons, even winning a championship in the 1980s with coach Phil Jackson. However, Ed's greatest pride and accomplishment was being a husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He was a devoted husband to Lynn Callanan Gardner for over 59 years; and a loving father to their four children, Ed, Keith (Michelle), Ashley (Garth), and Geoffrey (Jessica). Ed was also a proud Papa to his 14 grandchildren, Juliana, Ryan, Matthew, Shaye, Kendall, Logan, Amanda, Cassidy, Garth, Edward Jr., Grant, Piper, Jacob, and Hannah; and two great-grandchildren, Isla Summer Gardner and Beau Kyle Gardner. Edward was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Suzanne Daly Good. Later in life, Ed committed his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ed truly loved and accepted all people just as Christ loves and accepts us. He and his family attended the Loudonville Community Church and Christ Fellowship when in Vero Beach, Fla. His family will be hosting a celebration of Ed's life in the Loudonville Community Church, 374 Loudon Rd, Albany, on Monday, May 16, 2022. A funeral service will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visitation with family members will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Catskill Town Cemetery, 27 North Jefferson Avenue. Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon at the Catskill Golf Club, 27 Brooks Lane, immediately following.
