Edward Hopkins Obituary

Hopkins, Edward
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Hopkins, Edward P. "Hoppy," 89, of Davidsville, Pa., passed away on April 28, 2025, in Johnstown, Pa. Born on April 11, 1936, in Albany, N.Y., the son of Paul Hopkins and Dorothy (Monk) Bullion. Also preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (Argus) Hopkins; daughter, Kimberley LaBadia; and brother, Kenneth Hopkins. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Rose (Pucci) Hopkins; daughters, Tracy (Hopkins) Taylor, and husband, Mark, Sandra (Stubblefield) Haynes, and husband, Jeff, Kristine (Stubblefield) Martin, and husband, Bobby, Denise (Stubblefield) Pomeroy, and husband, Ernie, and Denine (Stubblefield) O'Connor; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and sister, Roberta Hopkins, and her companion, Bob Brandenberg. Ed was a 1954 graduate of Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, N.Y., and a 1959 graduate of State University of New York Maritime College in Bronx, N.Y. He worked most of his career as a Project Manager for General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y., which took him all over the world engineering and building power turbine generating plants. He was responsible for developing three patents while employed at General Electric. Upon retirement, Ed and Rose hopped in their RV and traveled all 50 states, visiting family wherever they were. During the winter months, they could be found on the Island of St. Maarten, enjoying the warm weather and getting to know the locals. In his early years, Ed enjoyed SCCA Race Cars, including racing on ice. Ed was President of the Lake Association at Helderberg Lake, while living there for over 12 years. While serving two terms as president, Ed was responsible for many environmental changes that helped the lake for many years. Ed was kind and loved to socialize and stay involved in any activity he could find. With his most recent move to Laurel View Village in Davidsville, Pa., Ed could be found anywhere on campus as part of the gardening club, the food committee, the decorating committee, the PEER committee, playing bocce ball, seated bocce ball, cornhole, pickleball, at the golf simulator or on the course and in the exercise room. And if you didn't find him there, you could usually find him roaming the halls, getting to know all the staff and the residents. He was happy in his last three years at Laurel View. Despite the health decline, Ed pushed to continue the lifestyle he wanted right up until the end. The night before the hospital stay, he was part of the golf simulator team championship game. Rather than go to the hospital that night, Ed chose to play in that tournament, winning the championship. He knew it would be the last time he would pick up a club here on earth. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Davidsville, Pa.
