Edward Mondore Obituary

Mondore, Edward Andrew
LOUDONVILLE - Andy Mondore, 67, died unexpectedly after a long illness on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Born in Albany, he was the beloved son of the late Joline C. and Edward Mondore. He was born and raised in Albany, graduated from the former Saint Agnes School. He enrolled at RPI and earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Science. He retired from RPI in 2020 after 39 years. He was a RPI Engineer for life!
Andy was an avid fan of RPI Hockey, the Valley Cats and Boston Red Sox – he and his wife, Becky, spent many weekends rooting the Engineers to victory with their hockey friends or making the trek to Boston to watch the Red Sox play or going to the Valley Cats games. They also attended many shows at MacHaydn Theatre and sang songs on their way back home. Andy was enamored with space exploration and often went to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama to spend a week in simulations for astronauts. As a computer guru, he had his Linux computer set up so that NASA could use the memory of his computer for space exploration – way before the time of super computers. Andy thoroughly enjoyed spending time at Hedges Lake with family and friends in the summer months.
Andy was a faithful member of the First Church in Albany where he served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee, a member of the choir and advisor to the Jr and Sr High Youth Groups with his long-time friend Monica Marsh Sivaslian. There are many stories of workcamps, lock-ins, service projects and just hanging out with the youth. He was a volunteer cabin counselor at Camp Fowler for many years and kept in touch with many of the youth from his cabins. He is much loved by many generations of church youth. Andy was President of the Albany Classis of the Reformed Church in America in 2006 and was an active member of the Synod Ministries Board. He is known for his calm presence, welcoming personality, and service to the community.
Andy is survived by his adored wife, Rebecca S. Keller; and cherished son, Zaquan (Zora) West. He was predeceased by his parents and aunt, Alayne DiFranco. Andy had a tremendous love for family and friends. He is survived by close cousins, Sonny (Janet) and Dennis DiFranco, and Jim and Vincent (Marissa) Lounello; as well as other cousins around the Albany area. He is survived by close friends, Monica Marsh Sivaslian, Kim Reohr, Nicole Sivaslian, Steven Reohr, Josh Bliss and predeceased by Wayne Sivaslian and Jay Reohr. Much laughter and love surrounded Andy when he was with family and friends.
The family would like to thank the late Dr. Earl Zimmerman, Dr. Danielle Wales and Nancy Cummings for their care and support throughout Andy's medical journey. For the last 2 years, Andy resided at Peregrine Colonie Senior Living where he was well loved and taken care of. The family would like to thank all the staff at Peregrine Colonie for their love and tenderness as they cared for Andy and supported Becky – they became an extended family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of E. Andrew Mondore to the Annual Fund Scholars Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (giving.rpi.edu or mailed to RPI Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3164, Boston, Mass 02241-3164), First Church in Albany Youth Fund (110 N. Sorry to hear of Andy's passing. We were friends and colleagues at Rensselaer throughout the 1980s. I recall him as a smart, gentle guy always willing to put his shoulder to the tasks at hand in the computing center. He had a great sense of humor and a delightful disposition. May he rest in peace.
