Edwin King Obituary

BRUNSWICK Edwin D. King, 76, of Brunswick Hills, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Born in Troy, he was son of the late Daniel J. and Bertha Inglis King and husband for 25 years of Dorothy Arakelian King. He was a lifelong resident of Troy. The 'patriarch' (Pasha) of the King family, he was very devoted to his enlarged family. He was a graduate of Troy Public School 18 and La Salle Institute, donating a classroom to La Salle many years later. His humor touched many and he enjoyed telling stories with a humorous twist. Mr. King was president of the family business, King Fuels in Troy. He started working after school in the business and opened the Albany office. Mr. King was an accomplished pilot, holding many licenses including single engine, twin engine, jet and helicopter. He was a member of The Quiet Birdmen. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing including deep sea fishing and competing in tournaments, the Grand Slam of Fishing; a horseman, competing in many events, a boat racer, a motorcycle enthusiast and a gardener. He was a member of the Empire State Petroleum Association, Gasoline Retailers Association of New York, a past member of the Oil Heat Institute and the board of directors of Key Bank. He was also a member of Wolfert's Roost Country Club, the Lake George Club and the Boca Raton Club. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Danna Fitzgerald of Troy and Suzanne Slote (Richard) of Troy; four grandchildren Daniel Slote (Lynn), Alexandra Slote, Emily Foley (Francis) and William Fitzgerald; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Barbara Arakelian; several nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Mary. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue in Troy and at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
