Electra A. Sokaris

Sokaris, Electra A. ALBANY Electra (Aphrodite) Sokaris, age 70, entered into eternal life on Monday, September 5, 2011 at her residence with her family by her side. Electra was born in Albany the daughter of the late Gregory and Antigone Sokaris. Electra was a lifelong parishioner of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. She taught Social Studies at Schalmont from 1980-1981 and was employed by the N.Y. State Dept. of Civil Service from 1981-1982. She taught English as a second language at Pierce College in Athens, Greece from 1982 to 1992 and worked at the Kefalonian Folk History Museum from 1992 to 1994. She also was the director for 10 years at St. Basil Academy in Garrison, N.Y. and taught the Greek Language at St. Sophia Greek School. Electra and her mother had spent their summers in Greece for many years and she assisted her brother in managing his Stage Coach Restaurant. Beloved sister of Nora Sokaris, Jerry (Eleanor) Sokaris, James (Mary) Sokaris, Peter (Holly Nolan) Sokaris, the late Alexander Sokaris and the late Nicholas (Ann) Sokaris; loving sister-in-law of Elaine (Alex) Sokaris; cherished aunt of Gregory Christopher, Allison, Gregory James, Stephanie (Vineel), Stratton, Gregory Alexander (Maria), George (Karen), Ann (Terrell), Laura (William), Gregory Peter (Bess); and Electra's God-daughters, the late Christina and the late Sophia. She is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Electra's memory may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany Co., 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
