Ellen Palmieri Obituary
MECHANICVILLE - Ellen F. Palmieri, 84, longtime resident of South St., died peacefully at Collar City Rehabilitation Center, on October 10, 2025, after a long illness. Born in Sharon, Conn., daughter of the late William and Cecilia Pohl Sheffer, she was a graduate of Stillwater High School.
Ellen worked for many years at the former Grand Union in Waterford, retiring when the company closed.
A talented musician, Ellen was known for her skill on the accordion and her beautiful singing voice. She was a longtime member of the Uncle Sam Chorus, the Dave Whitford Joyous Sound Barbershop Chorus, she was also a faithful member of the Stillwater Christian Fellowship choir. In addition, she was a sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired at various churches and events.
Ellen's most notable traits were her selflessness and gentle, loving nature. She was always looking to help the less fortunate, and her generous spirit will long be remembered. Above all, Ellen loved Jesus, and joyfully shared His message with others, never hesitating to proclaim His word.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Henry Palmieri, who died in 2015; as well as her sister, Cecilia "Jill" (John "Jack") Walrath.
Survivors include her close in-laws, Carl and Cindi Capuano, Madeline (Ed) LaCasse, and Santa Capuano; Henry's children, David (Claire) Palmieri, Darlene (Russ) Kearney, and Donna (Robert) Lafean and their families; her nephew, John Walrath; cousin, David Pohl; her closest and dearest friend, Caroline Cooney, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St., Mechanicville, on Friday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a funeral home service to follow at 12 p.m., officiated by her pastor, Michael Crandall. Burial will follow alongside her husband, Henry, at the Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Stillwater Christian Fellowship, P.O.
