Francis LaPlante Obituary
COHOES - Francis "Bobo" Joseph LaPlante Jr. passed away peacefully, December 2, 2025, at the age of 94, after a brief illness. Born on May 10, 1931, Francis, also known as "Bobo," was born and raised in Cohoes.
He was the son of Frank and Lena Riberdy LaPlante; longtime companion of Janet Saccone; father of Peter LaPlante, Lisa (Robert) LaForest, and Pamela (Lee) Fitzgerald; grandfather of Rebecca LaForest, Eric (Alyson) LaPlante, Benjamin LaForest and Lena Fitzgerald; great-grandfather of Ellery and Elijah Joseph LaPlante; and father-in-law of Shirley LaPlante. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bobo attended Catholic Central and Cohoes High, where he was named an All-American football player. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean War era. Bo was an avid golfer, loved Texas hold 'em at Rivers Casino, and he especially loved playing cards. He was a former barber and tavern owner, and proprietor of Little Times Square of Cohoes and Foxy's of Halfmoon.
Bobo's family would like to give a special thanks to Squeak Stanton for being such a great friend. Thank you to the staff at Shaker Place for their outstanding care and companionship, especially Lisa, Cami, Drew, Tony, Maureen, and so many others. We would also like to thank the staff at Albany Stratton VA Hospital for the superior care he received over the years.
A celebration of life in honor of Bobo will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any contributions be sent to The Residence Activity Fund, C/O Shaker Place, 100 Heritage Ln., Albany, NY, 12211.

Wow, what a GREAT MAN.... Everyone Loved BoBo.... There are no words that can express the joy and happiness he brought into the room when he came to play cards. He will be Greatfully missed...

I met BOBO in a poker game 27 years ago when I was 18. Cocky as I was even then, BOBO was OLD even then! Ha I immediately underestimated him and he continued to beat me in pot after pot.
5 years later, I get on a table, BOBO´s there and he´s now doing it to a new 18 year old hot shot. I knew better and had for a while now. I continued to see him again and again through out the years and always loved seeing him at the table. We became friends.
17 years later, 2020, covid, I moved my grandmother to an assisted living home on Western Avenue. The first person I see in sort of a traumatic moment for her and I, is BOBO´s smiling face as he saw me walk through the doors. He looked out for her going forward after that, I would talk with him often on my way in and out. He had all the gossip, who´s not eating, who´s a pain, and which aid was lazy. Even after that I saw him often at the poker tables still when he would escape the aids!
Sad to see him go, BOBO always put a smile on my face when I saw him. They gained a good one.
