Francis N. Mengel

Mengel, Francis N. DELMAR Francis N. Mengel, of Delmar, passed away August 4, 2011 at the age of 92. Mr. Mengel was born and raised in Phildelphia and attended Penn State University, graduating in 1941 with a degree in architectural engineer-ing. After graduation, he worked in Norfolk, Va., for the wartime ship building industry, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy. In 1941, he married Edna Mae Stoeckle of Philadelphia who passed away in 1969. After World War II he worked for an architectural firm in New York City. Then, in 1960, he was employed by the New York State Dormitory Authority where he worked as a project engineer until his retirement in 1985. In 1995, he married, and is survived by, Lois June Lee of Delmar. He is also survived by his two children from his first marriage, Carol M. Pightling of Visalia, Calif., and Francis N. Mengel Jr. of Clermont, Fla., (formerly of Delmar) and by four stepchildren from his second marriage, Linda Drew of Delmar, Vicki Bylsma of Delmar, Janice Lee of Delmar and Janet Lee of Methuen, Mass. He is also survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Mengel was a 50 year member of the Delmar Presbyterian Church. He was a life long member of the Masonic Order and a past commander of his American Legion post. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Mengel's remains have been donated to the Anatomical Gift Program of the Albany Medical College. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Delmar Presbyterian Church on September 10, 2011 at 11 a.m.
