Frank Rapant Obituary

Rapant, Frank Jr.
NEWCOMB - Frank Rapant Jr. was born on July 12, 1929, to Frank Rapant and Mary Toman in Schenectady, and died of natural causes on March 6, 2023, in North Creek, N.Y. He was 93.
Frank attended Draper High School in Schenectady, he received a B.S. in civil engineering from Union College in Schenectady in 1951, and an M.S. in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy in 1953. He ran his professional engineering and land surveying business throughout the Capital District for over 50 years before retiring to his camp in Newcomb in 2010, where he lived the rest of his life.
He is survived by his brother, Robert (Madeline) of Duane Lake, Newcomb and Schenectady; his sister-in-law, Janet Cembalski of Madrid; his sons, Timothy (Susan) of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Frank III (Trish) of Castleton, and Ferdinand (Jacqueline) of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; his daughter-in-law, Audrey Rapant of Middleburg; as well as 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson forthcoming, and many nieces and nephews. His beloved dogs, Hazel and Sweet Lucy, are headed to a new, loving home. He was predeceased by his brother, Ferdinand Rapant; sister, Carolyn Smith; and son, David Rapant.
An avid outdoorsman, Frank was happiest either deer hunting the Adirondacks, hunting ducks all over the east coast, fly fishing, trapping, or, perhaps more importantly, talking about these things with others. He was a champion marksman; in the 1980s he took first place in the New York State Skeet Championship, AAA class with the .410 shotgun twice, and first place in the United States Skeet Championship, AAA class with the .410 once. He served on the board for WMHT in Rotterdam, was president of the Rotterdam Rotary Club, and chaired the Rotterdam Pop Warner Football League.
An informal memorial gathering will be held at the Lake Harris Beach in Newcomb in the afternoon of May 27, 2023.
Donations to the Town of Newcomb may be made in his name at https://gofund.me/dfad68c7. Donations will be used to help support the elderly population of Newcomb, as a way of saying thanks to the town for doing right by this population.
